Worth getting a 'smart' electricity energy monitor, or pushing out supplier for a smart meter?

The point about IHD's for example, is you need one assigned to your meter to activate the Bright App, n3rgy data download etc. for which you don't sit in the hall !!!
You don't.  The apps have nothing to do with your IHD.  They rely on data from the central system that your smart meter sends readings to.

You need the IHD MAC to register/login. You clearly don't use them or you'd know that.

Load shedding & Limiting are already being talked about due to the potentially shortage that might occur this winter, but personally I doubt that those with Smart Meters will be targetted over and above those without on the same substation. BUT that sort of thing MIGHT happen in the future, so bear it in mind.

Load shedding is only going to happen at the substation as you say.  There is no plan, scheme or current capability to do load limiting.  They might decide in the future that only people named Kevin can have power on Thursdays - should I keep that in mind too?
Don't be so ridiculous. The ability to do it is already in the SMETS specs. I said it MIGHT happen in the future, It'll be eg. the case of you can't charge your EV when you want because loads are too high UNLESS you PAY an extra large premium for the use, or maybe even your Sunday roast at a peak time!! Please engage your brain instead of making fatuous comments.

Also the talked about "payment" for using energy at non-peak times and cutting use at peak times will only be for those with smart meters!
How else would you suggest that they work out if you used energy at the peak time or not?  Ask you to phone in a meter reading every 30 minutes?

As you've quite neatly pointed out here - all the innovations and benefits are (or will be) restricted to those with smart meters.  That is not a good argument for avoiding one.
I was neither arguing against or for smart meters! Just pointing out one or two of the issues that there are for or against. It seems to me that you jump to conclusions without always establishing the facts.

    ENDOF.

I have registered with both Bright and n3rgy (and a third one, but I can't remember its name), and I don't have an IHD.

You specifically said in your first post "beware the "possibilities" with smart meters" and "delay in current circumstances if not forced".  Since then, you have invented ridiculous scenarios that you have decided "might" happen despite a complete lack of evidence beyond the inside of your head.  You are quite clearly arguing against them.

Please stop peddling nonsense as fact.

It is NOT nonsense. That is the normal/quick way to register to use those. You can, by jumping through extra hoops, providing identity etc. register in other ways. Whilst you can point out that there other ways of registering, you are the one that needs to stick to facts, what I said was correct (if not complete). Any more of this nonsense will see your post reported.

Your words, precisely, were “you need the IHD MAC to register/login”.

    You were explicit and specific.

You were incorrect.  You do not need.  Factual inaccuracy, which you have now even admitted to.

It may offend your delicate sensitivities if someone points this out to you but, well, that’s not my problem,
  • It was the way you pointed it out, as though you are the only one that knows anything. Try to be more diplomatic instead of sarcastic.

Was it something I said?

Thanks, gents. I think I have the info I require, and I've confirmed the specific need is to be able to monitor as many different circuits within the building as possible, mainly to check if it IS just the occasional lighting that's causing the £400 pm bill. It'll also allow us to keep an eye on other parts, such as the office, classrooms, and an outbuilding.

    Thanks all.

Perfect.  Confirmed the specific need which shows you the option you require.  Good result.
