If both sides are happy with that, seems like a good result.seaburn68 said:They’re only charging me £9 per month for each month the meter has been broken 🎉1 -
Since that is clearly a 'made-up amount', I assume you'll be asking them to increase it, as it's clearly unrealistically low?seaburn68 said:They’re only charging me £9 per month for each month the meter has been broken 🎉
Seriously, I don't comprehend how it can be as low as £9pm as that barely covers the gas standing charge for a month? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just seems wrong in law they can charge for basically a made up ammount .I'm not sure you would prefer the alternative, which would be to cut off your gas supply until the meter can be replaced...From your other posts about the £9/month charge, I hope you are putting aside money to cover the bill that is inevitably going to arrive in the future as you must know that you are using more than that by any reasonable estimate...

I would prefer a working gas meter ! and i'm paying what I have been asked to pay and what are you on about "cut off "! for what reason I pay all my bills !
ps I have money to pay the gas I have used .0 -

Beware that low usage figure...
We also have a dead smart gas meter. The online EDF account is showing estimates of 27p per day, but 0 kwh, so it's just standing charge. It'll be interesting to learn how they handle estimated use.

The reason the supplier is not really charging at all for gas is because they are not losing any money out of the deal .It is classed as leakage just like the water companies do when they lose a percentage of water . British Gas as the producers lose out, EDF do not .
The OP has been honest and upfront contacting the supplier when many would just keep quiet for as long as possible

to be clear I always expect to pay for fule i have actually used ....I dont not think its fair to pay more than i have actually used. When I have wasted time conatcting and chasing over and over again , I expect to come to an arrangment thats fair and id expect a gesture of good will so i feel I am not being robbed through no fault of myself .
“Siri - show me an apology that isn’t an apology” ⬆️ exactly my thoughts .

That’s how I read your post - if they come up with an estimate that is reasonable, you would pay - just concerned that they would go over the top.seaburn68 said:to be clear I always expect to pay for fule i have actually used ....I dont not think its fair to pay more than i have actually used. ps I have money to pay the gas I have used .The context of the "cut off" comment is that billing on estimated use is the quid pro quo for not cutting off the supply for a failed meter. They will in most circumstances fail open so there is no interruption to your use of the gas, but the supplier does get the right to bill on an estimate, and so far it would seem they have been exceptionally reasonable in what they are billing until they can replace the meter. After it is fixed, as others have said, there will be an opportunity to negotiate on the full amount to be charged and you will have the option to go to the Ombudsman if you can't reach agreement.Happy to hear you have the ability to pay when the real bill does eventually arrive, sadly too many assume they will never get charged, but good that it is not the case for you.

Gas meters with dead batteries in most cases fail closed .That prompts the occupants to get on the phone to the supplier immediately not several years later . They also display a low battery sign on the meter or battery fail warning It gets complaints but that is how prepay meters work too , no money in the meter no service .MWT said:seaburn68 said:I would prefer a working gas meter ! and i'm paying what I have been asked to pay and what are you on about "cut off "! for what reason I pay all my bills !

In this case the smart gas meter apparently had nothing to do with a dead battery .It would be interesting to find out what exactly the problem was not just "its broken "0
