Negotiating with PlusNet Broadband Renewals - Tactics That Work

Hi,
I've been with PlusNet (BB and Phone) for years. No complaints. solid 36MB FTTC. Good customer service.
End of an 18 month contract and I was quoted £41.75 to renew (November 2022).
Phone the 'thinking of leaving' line and got that down to 23.99/mo (18 months) + price escalator. That's the price new customers pay.
Signed up with Vodafone at 22/mo (24 months) + 100 cash back. Faster BB speed as well.
Called PN up after I received an email from them confirming I'm leaving, just to see if the renewal deal would change, and it did.
22/mo (18 months) + 50 cash back.
22/mo (24 months) + 75 cash back.
21/mo (18 months) + no cash back.
So you have to sign up with a different provider and then cancel before they switch you over. I think you have 14 days to cancel by law in the UK care of distance selling regulations, so sign up within 14 days of your contract ending.
You'll need to wait for PN to send the email confirming you're leaving, before you call to re-negotiate otherwise they won't know you've signed up with another provider. Also remember to cancel the DD from your new provider, and to call/email them to cancel. In my case Vodafone was still a bit cheaper, but only by 25 quid.
Regards.

You don't need to go through the whole leaving to get a deal with Plusnet. I managed it last time without having to do any of that. The £41.75 is the standard out of contract price, anybody paying that isn't trying hard enough.0

Before my contract was up I rang the leaving telephone number 3 times over 2 weeks and got the same 23.99 reply. They weren't budging for me.0 -

They weren't budging for me.All I did last time was research the market and find that Provider X is doing <whatever> as a new deal and bounce that off them. And they matched it. And it didn't involve leaving.I always think sometimes it depends on who you speak to and when, and a bit of luck. Also look at your online portal as it can (not always but may) beat the phone option.0 -

I did the same. Tried matching them to OneStream, then Vodafone originally and they wouldn't budge. Weren't interested. You must have had someone different. Perhaps it is that random.

Weird - didn't have to try too hard recently to get £21.99 pm on renewal for 18 months . But that was for 40/10 FTTC service inclusive of weekend and evening calls.0
