Shouldn't EON Next have reduced my fixed rate tariff - still at 41.952 p/kWh

They offered for me to switch to NextFlex at 35.06 pKw/h for day and night. I've moved over to that for now. My fixed period ends in June and we won't be using the EV charger until April so I think it makes sense for now. I'll re-assess our needs closer to the time. Thanks for the help. Much better service than EON  ;)
Had you actually been billed in October or November?  E.ON have been billing at the full rate (and so showing some people the full prices as their 'tariff') but then having a negative price on the next line of the bill to make the actual cost match the EPG.

You might find that you didn't need to change, but I'm glad you're sorted.
  • No I haven’t been billed for October which is now a month late

I have not had my October monthly statement either Logic..., but for me its not that important as I can see my tariff, reads and payments online, which appear correct.

I am concerned that you have opted for a single rate tariff though, of course it depends on your circumstances but I would have considered the Next Flex E7 tariff which you should be able to see on the website. As I said for me it gives a night rate of 14.74p per kWh and in my region the weighted E7 SVT equivalent (58% day, 42% night) is 32p per kWh.

Of course only you can determine whether your night rate usage would make a significant difference to benefit from the E7 tariff, but it would appear that the 'Next Drive' (EV) tariff coming soon would necessitate a switch as and when you would require it anyway.
  • I am puzzled by the statement from the E.ON forum that they haven't been able to adjust the unit rates for my Next Online V15 tariff down to the EPG.
I have received bills for both gas and electricity since the EPG started, and it looked to me as if they had been reduced just fine.

What am I missing? The electricity is at 33.48p/kWh inc. VAT and the gas is at 10.3257p/kWh inc. VAT which seem to me to be the EPG  rates, or close enough. I can live with them until 31 March next year, then they can cancel the EPG discount and I should have another 3 months on the fixed tariff until it expires.

Hi J Buchanan ... What are the Next Flex rates for your postcode? https://www.eonnext.com/tariff-search

Could be wrong but I suspect the original Next Online v15 is in the above EPG but below the OFGEM Oct cap rates, so that the EPG rates have been applied to your tariff, whereas the community statement is referring to those tariffs above the OFGEM Oct cap rates (17p or more above the EPG for electricity, can't remember gas).

As we have seen many times (not least from the government) precise language is so important when dealing with technical matters ... 'EPG cap' anyone?

  • It's poor wording on the community forum.

If you have a fix that can be reduced to the cap with the allowable discount, it will be.

If you have a fix that would still be above the cap after applying the maximum discount, then what the forum post says will apply.

    Each fuel looked at individually.

Hey Sparky ... how come after several hours we've both come up with the same answer ... "resistance is futile".
  • Next Flex in my area is 33.48p/kWh and 10.33p/kWh. So that is what I am paying on Next Online V15. Back in the day when EPG was announced it was said that some customers had chosen a fixed tariff which was more than 17p/kWh above the EPG level (exc. VAT). It was stated that such customers would have their rates reduced by the 17p even though that would leave them above the EPG rate. It seems that E.ON have done something different, to bring them in line with EPG.
