How can I get Scottish Power to take responsibly, respond, and act appropriately? - no where to go

Options

My daughter is 22 years old and started her own business in 2021. Since taking over the premises she has had ongoing issues with her supplier Scottish Power. The premises had two meters when she started her lease on the property in June 21. One of the meters (it was an off-peak meter) has never worked and on the 28th March 2022 Scottish Power finally removed the broken meter. Despite this two people have attended the shop to read the said meter on two occasions since it has been removed.

Over the past 18 months we have repeatedly called and emailed Scottish Power with limited response to the point where we raised a compliant with the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman did a review and found in our favour with a small amount of compensation for the issues we have continuously faced and the lack of response from Scottish Power. Our daughter has not yet received the payment allocated via the Ombudsman although Scottish Power in their confusing and often contradictory correspondence seem to have indicated they have credited it to her. When we ask for this credit to be refunded, they refuse as they say the account is still active.

The icing on the cake is now that Scottish Power have notified my daughter, they will no longer be providing commercial power from the 1st December (we wonder if this is a personal issue as they are continuing to provide commercial power to others). We have attempted to obtain quotes for another provider but the system they use shows that there are still two meters at the property and therefore cannot just quote on the one working meter despite the other one having been removed. It seems that the national database needs to be updated but Scottish Power ignore our requests to do this so we are in a catch 22 – contract ending but can’t take out a new contract with an alternative supplier. Having contacted Scottish Power again today I have just been informed that they have no record of the meter having been removed!!

I know you can’t deal with individual issues, but I really don’t know what more to do. The issues here are circular and all centre around the totally incompetence and disregard of Scottish Power but with effect from 1st December my daughter’s business could be cut off from the 1st December through no fault of her own and she has no way of protecting her business.

You have an excellent record of helping individuals and your help with our case would be greatly appreciated as we really don’t know where else to go with this issue. My Daughter is in tears worrying about trying to make a success in life at an early age and this is being halted by a massive corporation due to red tape and incompetence. We have now written to the CEO but are not hopeful it will make any difference.

I don't think even that will work, Martin's valuable time is spent on consumer issues and this is very clearly a B2B contract. What the OP's daughter needs is legal advice (which will almost certainly have to be paid for) on how to proceed against SP.

Raise another complaint to the ombudsman about Scottish Power not updating the database and how you are unable to move to another supplier because of it?
