Smart Meters I'm Confused

Options
I have 2 Smart Meters fitted in my garage about 18 months ago. They both worked fine for about 6 months, when the Electric smart meter stopped sending data to the Energy firm. The Gas meter continued to work fine with no issues and still does to this day. I reported this to the energy supplier several times and to cut a very long story short, they eventually said they have no way of fixing this as even if they put in a new meter, the same problem would exist. They say it is a network problem and is out of their hands and they cannot resolve this problem. So my question is - how come if it's a network problem - why has my Gas smart meter worked perfectly fine all this time and the Electic SM has failed to send the data. Do they work on different networks or what?

The gas meter connects to the smart network through the electricity meter HAN (as there is limited power in a gas meter battery) so don't see how the information given can be correct.

Yes I don't believe it either. Also just when I look at this diagram, my Electricity meter has stopped communicating with the In Home Device even when it is placed right next to the smart meter hub. The Gas readings on the IHD have also worked perfectly for the whole duration. So for my logic that would make it an issue with the hub or the Electric smart meter
  • Do we have any experts on SMETS2 meters? Can I reset this myself and see if it kicks back into normal function again?
  • They are not end user adjustable as far as i'm aware. Have you checked on the Bright app whether the data is being transmitted to the DCC? Sometimes it's a data entry issue with the supplier.

Not currently a user of that app. Will give it a try now.
  • The most likely reason that I can think of is that is an electricity smart meter firmware issue. Last year, Kaifa meters would not respond to a data request from the supplier. Meter manufacturers are responsible for their firmware. The fix took several months. The meters retain import data for 13 months.

Fiddling around with smart meters can result in a TAMPER warning being sent out.

So the issue is the leccy meter not sending data via the comms hub. Not an issue with the DCC network.

On the screen of the electricity meter, is there a set of bars showing the HAN signal strength?
