Initial 1 hour delay then bad weather?

Good evening,
We had a flight to Mexico in August with British Airways, we were delayed and left waiting at the gate for around an hour, then we were boarded on to the aircraft only to be told we had missed our slot so had to wait, then as time went on were told a weather front was incoming so Gatwick airport were prioritising landing flights. We were over 4 hours delayed getting to Mexico.
We have been in communication with BA asking for compensation because we were delayed for more than 4 hours, but they are blaming bad weather. They will not respond to our questions about the initial delay, and my argument is - if we hadn't been delayed for the first hour and missed our slot, which was not due to bad weather, we would not have then been grounded and then stuck in a weather front that ultimately meant we were delayed for hours on the ground of Gatwick airport and spoilt the beginning of our holiday...
Your help, advice, comments would be much appreciated....

Weather and ATC restrictions are not the airline's fault and classed as circumstances beyond the airline control.
The question here is whether you would actually have got out before the weather situation had it not been for initial 1 hour delay. there may still have been ATC restrictions at that time which would have caused delays. This is a difficult one but I guess your only choice now is to escalate by choosing betwen:
- ADR (BA use CEDR)
- Small Claims Court (Moneyclaim online)
- Solicitor/claims management company (no win no fee but will take a sizeable chunk of your compensation if they win, and they don't really do anything you can't do using the first 2 options)paulbarfoot said:After cecking EUClaim and bottonline both says we could be entitled to compensation...1
