Given high value items & a lot of electronic stuff now has a code to give to the driver on receipt. Failed delivery should be a thing of the past now.
As driver has to enter code, that only you know. 🤷‍♂️

so we will start to see more of the 'ordered a mobile phone, opened the packaging to find something cheap the same size that weighs the same' type complaints on here instead as the dishonest people in the distribution chain switch tactics....
Given Amazon's in house security. I doubt it...

    Hi OP
Sorry to hear about your problems especially the recording by your late dad.

You have posted here seeking help during this distressing time and I'm sure someone will give you sincere and good advice. There are some really nice/polite and very helpful guys around.

I hope there is a way to recover your late dads recordings. Failing that, and I'm not a compo man and think Amazon are good but judging by what you have said, I think they owe you an apology and compo better still an apology and retrieve your late dads recordings.

That's correct - but it was one of three parcels put into one box.

Can you explain as you only mentioned a mobile phone missing.?

    What is the full story?

Are you saying you ordered three items, including a mobile phone.

You received a box containing two items , but not the mobile phone.?

Did you have to give a code to get the box?

Was the box sealed with no evidence of tampering?

You only seem to be worried about your Alexa recordings?

I'm not sure what you're not understanding. I had two high value products delivered with one OTP, all three were supposed to be in the same box, but only two were delivered. I didn't receive the third. Amazon claimed the third parcel was delayed, but now insist it was delivered that day. I've spoken to the police and believe I'll be entitled to get my money back, but my concern is Amazon closing my account off the back of it.

    "I'm guilty of returning products"

I wouldn't say guilty is the appropriate wording, if something is wrong then it's wrong.

My complaint rate is well under 1% of items ordered and return rate is 0%
I have received 1,000s of items over 18 odd years and made 3 complaints - had a cd box set that was 1 cd short and they refunded the full price and said keep the rest - 1 item was delivered twice they said keep the second without charge - long ago I paid for next day delivery that took a day to long and the delivery charge was refunded without question.

I do find them frustrating at times. I had a slow cooker last month I wanted to return and they told me to keep it because I couldn't print out the packaging label. I had asked for a QR code. I can see in that sense how I'm costing them money, but is that my fault?
I bought a slow cooker off them.  It took six months to get to me and when I queried it they said "Well, what did you expect?"

(Note - this did not really happen)

Just playing devils advocate here but Amazons return and refund policy is extremely generous to the point that they give refunds before they even get the goods back and they have a similar policy for missing items.

People tend to take advantage of that and then they push it to far.

Fact here, they have a tolerance level, this is a level based on orders to returns, refunds and complaints missing items etc, they have detailed records of everything you do with them.

The computer says no, it's automated when the point of abuse(as they see it) is reached. Usually there is no way back and the whole household id banned. Appeals are very rarely won.

I just find the whole system depressing, any other company you expect some sort of investigation when things go wrong.

We had some birthday vouchers 'delivered' which never arrived not that long ago either. You can argue with Amazon until you're blue in their face that they should be investigating it, but they just say they'll inform the right people.

Every time they mess up it's a black mark against my name, not theirs.

The original faulty phone I was trying to replace went back with DPD today (Currys this time) - the driver made a joke about hoping it doesn't go missing just before Christmas after he asked if there was a phone in the parcel. Again I worry it'll be my fault if it does!
