Mitsubishi ecodan ASHP no heating

  • The only problem I have experienced with my heat pump was a filter that blocked almost immediately it was installed.  If your pumps are working but the symptoms are consistent with not getting any flow to the radiators then maybe you have a blockage in your heating circuit?

Your average plumber will have very little if any experience of heat pumps.  In my previous house I had an obscure make of gas boiler.  To get it serviced I had to contact the manufacturer and get them to help me find a plumber who knew how to service their equipment.  He was about 40 miles distant from where I lived.  I think it's the same circumstance here.  You need a heat pump engineer who is trained on Mitsubishi to solve your problem - and to service your heat pump going forward.

If you want to search for local approved Mitsubishi service and repair companies

    https://les.mitsubishielectric.co.uk/find-an-installer

(There is a domestic heating and a service and repair checkbox on that page it's not all about install.

That said I think you need to get to know your heat pump well and know what all the symbols are telling you

At this stage I am concerned you only have the auxiliary electric heater (let's call it the immersion as most people know what that is) unless you come back and say the radiator type symbol is showing and staying on.

Do you have any manuals with the system as there is a great troubleshooting section in mine.

    Hi OP

So this is ours this morning can you confirm when your heating switches to play does the radiator type symbol appear. This signifies the heat pump outside is running.

    Hi
so yes that symbol comes up but the thing outside doesn’t make any noise. I can remember back in March it sounded like a plane and would be going off and on constantly throughout the day.

Thank you for your response. The only issue I have is that because it’s social housing and as it’s a new build it’s still under warranty from the construction company so they are the ones obligated to solve any issues.
I do get the feeling from them that they aren’t really if the understanding of the system. When they’ve came out to look at it they’re ringing other people to try and diagnose the problem.

It's good to do some fault finding.

What I would do next is check that the outside isolator switch is not turned off (picture below)

Make sure your thermostats are turned up high 25oC

Did you get any manuals with your system? Good time to read them and look at the advanced menu options and check what settings the installation engineers may have left you with.

Most importantly make sure you keep badgering the installers to sort it out.

Going forward you really need to get to know your Ecodan and controller and this will take time. They are not like gas boilers and to get the most out of them you need to learn about them.

Thanks for all your help I will go and check it out.

Unfortunately the ‘manual’ (if you can call it that)
I was given was 5 pages long basically telling me how to use the thermostats and how to program them for timed used and told me to use it on the room temperature setting. The installer informed me that this is incorrect and to leave it on the curve.

I wasn’t even shown or told how it works or how to use it when I moved in so it’s very much a learn as you go basis but I am keen to learn about it and have been told it’s a lot more energy efficient than a normal heating system which wins for me.

Thanks again for your help 😊
  • I have seen similar posts before from people in similar circumstances.  The fundamental problem is that they cannot take direct responsibility for their heat pump problem and the business/organisation that is responsible doesn't do the sensible thing and call out a service engineer with the necessary expertise.  There is an episode of "Fawlty Towers" where Basil hires a builder because he is cheap and the builder then proceeds to mess-up the job.  You seem to be in a similar situation, the construction company would rather hire a cheap plumber than somebody who knows what they are doing.

Yes it absolutely seems that way 😓

I will continue to pester them
it’s just incredibly frustrating having to waste so much time staying in waiting for them to ‘solve’ the issue

If it wasn't getting heat it would indefinably call for it, not turn off after 5min?

And as its mild the outside unit would not be working hard anyway.

It’s not particularly mild where I am it’s been around 10 to 12 degrees today so surely it should be working?
It was warmer outside when I moved in back on March and it worked perfectly fine then the thermostats were set to 20 to 22 degrees and
the heat pump could be heard working every day.

The thermostats are set to 25 degrees at the moment and the inside temperature of the house is currently 16 degrees so surely it should be kicking in?
