Warm Home Discount property details

We've had several threads already, I know, but this might be useful: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1115362/whd-eligibility-statement-2022-england-wales-annex-1.xlsx
From this page https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/warm-home-discount-eligibility-statement-england-and-wales

It has all the property characteristic combinations and shows which ones score as having high costs.

Couple of disclaimers though - You do need to know your property's age and size to see which bands it sits in, and the eligibility statement says that VOA size information doesn't necessarily correspond with EPC size information.

Ultimately any of us will only know if we get a letter through, but just thought this would be useful for anyone else curious about the workings out.

    Thanks, spoonie
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

    Thanks for the links.
I'm none the wiser as yet whether I will qualify for the WHD, having qualified from when the scheme was introduced until last year. In addition, I am on a tariff with my energy supplier that is linked to me having qualified for the WHD. If I don't get the WHD, my electricity and gas tariffs will both increase, a double whammy.

Thanks but still completely confused. I do know that people have started to receive the £150 (low income) before they received the letter saying they were entitled.
I know there’s a helpline opening from 14th November, which I seen on my energy suppliers website (Octopus)

We qualified under Core Group 2, and our property is classed as high energy cost score on the spreadsheet (old, large, detached). I would assume anyone falling under the high energy cost score would hopefully qualify, and then at some point eligibility will then taper off as the funding pot runs out.

Only under a conservative government could you have support aimed at people in big old mansions *laugh*.... but here we are. In the scheme of things the WHD has lost significant value I suppose.

  • The table is really difficult to get through, to be fair.  It's possible with effort, but certainly not designed to be a tool for the public to use.

It seems for this being the first year they ran the calculations then set the threshold based on number of properties rather than absolute results.  The formula was simply to rank them.
(I can't remember exactly where I read it, definitely in a government document - most likely the consultation, but I don't have the energy to go finding it right now.)

How many mansion owners/tenants(?) are going to qualify for means-tested benefits though?

We don't actually know how old the house is (Housing Association says one thing, OS maps say another, and the style of building is between those two - each would put it in a different date band!) nor what size the VOA will have down.  So we really will have to wait and see too.

  • That seems to rule me out.. we get income related benefits, have had WHD help  previous years.  But as we live in a small bungalow we are unlikely to get support.
