Hi

I want to buy a new phone and get mobile phone insurance that covers all the standard things like loss, theft and accidental damage and replaces the phone with a brand new handset of the phone I had insured, or if it is discontinued, a brand new similar handset. In home insurance this is called replacing new for old.

However, all the phone insurance policies I can find only offer a replacement phone that is refurbished.

I do not want a refurbished phone due to germs and the Covid risk, and the fact that people take their phones to the toilet with them and use them without washing their hands etc, yuck, do not want a refurbished phone.

I do not mind the cost and know I will pay more for a policy that does not use refurbished phones, but I cannot find an insurer that takes disabled people's needs around germs and Covid into account.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Rae

Why not just use your home insurance?

My bank provides mobile phone insurance as an account service. They provide new for old if a phone is stolen, lost or broken beyond repair. There is a £100 excess. I've just had to use it and the bank were very efficient

If the phone can be repaired, you'd get your own one back anyway - but the person who repaired it might be filthy/have any number of diseases......
Refurb phones are sanitised and basically like new. The people who assembled/tested/packed your current phone, probably in China, 'home' of Covid,  possibly weren't as hygienic as you'd like, but I'd bet that didn't matter when you opened your shiny new phone..!

Which bank please? My bank only cover for lost or stolen, not accidental damage.

Because my home insurance only covers if the phone is lost or stolen and doesn't cover for accidental damage.

That's not answering the question I asked.

Check your policy/provider you may be able to add accidental damage on for mobiles, though not all will.  You may need to specify it as such.
