Radiators Too Hot To Touch

I had a heating engineer call because the pressure gauge on my boiler was much higher than normal when it was working and the radiators too hot to touch. He said the expansion vessel needed air and to turn my radiator temperature control down to 60. The pressure gauge now seems to stay within it's usual range when working but drops below where it started when turned off. The radiators remain too hot to touch, much hotter than they have ever been since the system was installed 20 years ago. Surely this can't be right especially as they have been turned down 8 degrees. If it is alright great as I assume I'll be heating my house better using less gas but I have to say I'm nervous about what is going on. Does anyone here have an idea?

What's "radiator temperature control"?Cordie said:He said the expansion vessel needed air and to turn my radiator temperature control down to 60.Do you realise that it's CH water temperature setting in the boiler, not the radiator's thermostat?

I solved this by turning them down at the lockvalve. Not sure if that's the way to do it, but it works1

The lockshields should be used to balance the raidators so that they all heat up evenly and (near enough) at the same time. One usually aims for a 10-12°C temperature differential between flow & return pipes. The temperature of the water should be controlled by setting the boiler appropriately (usually a dial to set the flow temp).housebuyer143 said:I solved this by turning them down at the lockvalve. Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

grumbler the only knowledge I have about my boiler is how to turn it on/off and refill it when necessary. My instruction booklet say it is the 'Maximum radiator temperature control' dial.

Make and model of the boiler ?Cordie said:grumbler said:

And have you turned that dial down? If so, can you turn it down some more to see the effect? It wouldn't usually be on maximum.Cordie said:grumbler said:

Boiler make and model ?

It wasn't on maximum but 68 I've turned it down to 60 as the engineer suggested but that has made no difference to the temperature of the radiators. As the water coming out of the taps was also too hot I've turned the hot water temperature down too.cymruchris said:

If you mean the TRV that effects the room temperature at which the radiator comes on, not the temperature of the water in the radiator.housebuyer143 said:I solved this by turning them down at the lockvalve. Not sure if that's the way to do it, but it works
