I'm currently on Octopus Go but thinking about switching to IO as the nighttime window increases from 4 to 6 hour. I can't currently charge my battery to 100% which means I'm starting to pay the higher tariff from about 8pm on a grey day (when there isn't much solar PV being generated).
My question is that I don't currently have a EV (it's on my current wishlist!) - And so can I switch to IO without an EV?
If I can then it's a no brainer for me as I can run the house for longer at night on the cheaper tariff and I can probably get to a 100% battery charge which should see me through most days. But the IO site mentions EV (as it should as that is the main reason they've launched this new tariff!) - And so has anybody switched to IO who doesn't have an EV (or at least a compatible EV)?0 -
You can't switch to io until you have your eV. For io to be activated, you need to do a test charge. You should have an eV for go, but you seem to have avoided that check.
I have solar and battery, with an eV on io and being able to charge the battery to 100 on a grey day overnight is great.

Not quite that simple. Either the EV (eg; Tesla) or the EVSE (eg; Ohme) need to be Intelligent Octopus compatible. I have a BMW EV and a Zappi2, and I cannot sign up for Intelligent Octopus.
Edit. I have just read in the MyEnergi forum that BMW compatibility is now being beta tested.

But you pay almost 15 per kWh in off peak periods and the same peak price.
I recently switched from standard to E7 with octopus and it took just 1 week to make the switch...
Now I can charge my 6.5kwh battery from 10% to 100% for less than £1..0 -
I've got an MG4 and was offered Intelligent, presumably because I have an Ohme cable, although the car model itself isn't on the list, as far as I can see.Having just looked at the terms and conditions you are also eligible if you have heat pumps or a battery "low carbon technology".My usage is two thirds cheap rate, one third peak although I suspect I'll be tweaking the cheap rate proportion upwards0

Octopus used to refer to the Open Charge Point Protocol: OCPP.
Tesla has built this into its vehicles so any charging point can be used. Conversely, if OCPP is built into the EVSE then again Octopus can control the charging provided the EV is left on fast charging.0 -

The OHME EVSE cable controls the time of charge. For what it's worth my unit average is 17.42p which should reduce as I put additional load on at night - last night the dishwasher and a load of laundry.Edit: The Octopus app already talks about "low carbon technology" in its FAQ, which is why I quoted it above and I didn't notice any talk of this being a future introduction. I'd check if it applies to anybodies personal situation.It really is just talk at the moment, you can't get access to the tariff without performing a test-charge using your EV at your home location.The system will eventually extend to specific control of other tech, but it can't do it at the moment.
