Made a mess of the wall when taking down a TV bracket, how to best repair it?

Hello, I've just taken off the old TV bracket and the wall is not in a good way. I feel confident enough to fill it etc under normal circumstances, but we have someone coming to fit a new bracket on Friday and I want to make sure it's ready for that, but most importantly I want to make sure the wall is strong enough. Any suggestions please?

Is this a hollow stud wall? I've found the best way is to remove a section of plasterboard to the nearest studs and put a piece of plywood in it's place (skimming over any parts that will be visible then repainting) - this gives a much stronger base for the bracket, and if it's going in the same place as now, it will mean less of the current holes to fill!1

Thanks, think this might be above my paygrade then as I think if I remove parts and replace it with plywood, I run the risk of making it way less strong than the rest of the plaster anyway. Might see if I can find someone to come and fix it tomorrow somehow, otherwise I've probably wasted £125

I would suggest that you remove the loose material and fill the holes as you were going to. Keep the photo you have posted and show it to the fitter coming on Monday. It's really their job to make sure the wall is strong enough, and with the photo they can see the state of the wall. The sooner you fill the holes, the longer the filler will have to set, which will help.
If the wall is a stud wall, I would be tempted to fit a length of plywood between two or three studs (depending on the size and weight of the TV), and then fix the bracket to the plywood. You might need to compromise on the exact position of the TV, but it does make it very easy to remove the plywood and fill just a few small holes to reinstate the wall. This can be very useful in rental properties.
If the wall is solid brick, the fitter should have a good quality wallplug and SDS drill to fit them.
If the wall is aereated concrete blocks, this needs special wall plugs, and I would probably use the approach of fitting a larger area of plywood with a good number of the special wall plugs. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Your photo of a No Entry sign does not really tell us much about the problem! Looks like there is a problem with the link to the site you used to host it.0

There's a clear picture of the wall and has been since the post went up. Maybe there's a problem your end.Le_Kirk said:Your photo of a No Entry sign does not really tell us much about the problem! Looks like there is a problem with the link to the site you used to host it.0 -

No picture for me either, not even any indication that there is anything missing.

They have used Google Photos to share the image but your browser has permissions where others do not. Presumably the permissions have changed since you saw the image, and you may even continue to see the image while it is cached for you.DanDare999 said:
