  • You have said that the credit reference agencies have told you the marker will be removed on the 31st of December - so if that's the day they remove it - you can apply the day after. They won't close an account after a marker is removed - but you're intimating that you want to open an account before the marker is gone. 1st of January is your account opening day.

Or did you mean that the bank account you had would be removed on the 31st of December?

There may not be a 'hard search' but there'll still be identity and other basic checks completed, you can't just say your name is 'Noddy' and you want to open a bank account, and the banks say 'Oh yes no problem Noddy come on in here's your bank card'. I imagine they check EVERYONE for CIFAS markers no matter which account you try to open.
Cifas have advised me on the 15th december the marker will be removed of their records.. what i mean by 31st december is thats when the account will be deleted from my credit file but if i apply for a basic account from 16th december once cifas remove the marker will the account which will show closed on my credit report be an issue? Even though the marker would be deleted on 15th december?

I don't think your CIFAS marker is linked to your old current account on your credit files. All a lender can see on the credit files is that you had a current account that got closed many years ago, and it might have some missed payment markers but they will be so old it won't bother them

My accounts on my credit file show satisfactorily closed so will that be ok?
  • Are credit checks automatic or does someone (human) actually view it?

In most cases they are automatic, marginal cases or appeals can result in a human review.
  • Hi there I've recently tried changing banks without success as I've now discovered I have a cifa marker on my name that was put on dec 29 th 2020 . It has totally destroyed my credit rating and my ability to get a bank I've had to open a bank with think money . When asked fir the dsr file it came back multiple encashment fraud and miss use of a facility.  The thing that alarms me is this account was used at the time to receive my late father's inheritance of 24.5 k as soon as that money entered the account they froze my account for 9 days until I proved were the money had come from so I emailed the fraud department a copy of the sale of my dad's house 3 days later still no access to my money. So I called them and they told me to ask my solicitor to call there fraud department to verify that it was from the sale of my dad's house so I did then that day they unfroze the account . 7 days later I receive a letter to say my accounts being closed in 30 days and could I find a different bank to bank with with no explanation so I went in the bank with my I'd and drew all the money out and joined think money as no other bank would expect me.  2 years on I've wrote to nationwide 8 weeks ago asking them why this is on my name how could I commit fraud on my father's money still no response 8 weeks later all they said is they need more time to investigate the matter properly . The only time there was a problem with my banking was when the 24.5k arrived in the account I really don't know what I've supposed to have done wrong really I don't they caused me alot of stress at the time after loosing my dad I feel I've been very poorly bye nationwide they are a terrible bank.

Financial institutions do have an eight week period in which to resolve complaints, after which you can escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service, but if they've specifically said that they need more time then realistically you probably don't have much choice other than to wait a bit longer, especially when cases take months to get any attention at FOS.

It's a side issue really (although could contribute to investigation timescales) but I don't quite understand why you waited two years before pursuing this if you knew back then that there was a problem with other banks accepting you?
