As long as they can prove that you are you, and that you exist, you should have no issues getting a basic bank account.

You didn't answer the previous question I asked around any recent history on your credit files? Do you have any active accounts of any kind? Or is absolutely everything closed since the CIFAS marker was applied?

Are you on the electoral roll?

Sorry bud didnt see that part ive never had a credit card before that and since then in 2016 ive never had a current account, basic account, any forms of credit.. ive had to use online banks also im on the electoral roll... would you say the moment the marker falls off to open a basic account or shall I wait? Also do banks have live reports so if cifas say on 16th december marker will fall off will it fall off on banks systems on 16th december?? When opening a basic account will the closed accounts on my credit report be an issue? They do say satisfactorily closed

All of your closed accounts will fall off the history 6 years to the date they were marked as closed, but it's good that they are settled and marked as satisfactory. So there's no other negative markers other than the fact everything was closed abruptly.

Depending on how long they took to close everything down once the CIFAS was applied will give the new financial services providers more or less to go on.

You can't see the marker - so you'll not be certain is off - but it will be removed 6 years to the day it was applied.

Do you know the actual date it was originally applied?

Banks see an instant live snapshot of your history - we don't see the same data on our own files as it only gets updated monthly.

Personally I'd probably wait until the 1st of January and then apply to be sure. I'm sure you're keen to get things back to how they were, but for the sake of a fortnight, I'd feel better hanging on just a little longer.

So the marker was added on cifas on 15th december 2016 however account was closed with bank on 16th december and on credit report it says it will be deleted off my credit report on 31st december... will it be an issue with lets say i open a basic account with barclays for example that i have a closed account on my report? I did a SAR so i can see the marker when it was applied and yh it makes sense what you said to wait an extra 2 weeks

This is why I'd wait until the 1st of January.

If you apply too soon, and the marker is there, there's a strong chance the account will be closed shortly after opening. Better to sit tight and not try to rush it.

Can i ask why they would close once it being open if the marker has gone? Also how come you cant open basic accounts with markers as alot of banks say basic accounts dont require credit checks?

You have said that the credit reference agencies have told you the marker will be removed on the 31st of December - so if that's the day they remove it - you can apply the day after. They won't close an account after a marker is removed - but you're intimating that you want to open an account before the marker is gone. 1st of January is your account opening day.

Or did you mean that the bank account you had would be removed on the 31st of December?

There may not be a 'hard search' but there'll still be identity and other basic checks completed, you can't just say your name is 'Noddy' and you want to open a bank account, and the banks say 'Oh yes no problem Noddy come on in here's your bank card'. I imagine they check EVERYONE for CIFAS markers no matter which account you try to open.

A CIFAS marker is not a credit check.
Given you have online accounts. Don't rush in for a basic bank account, wait a while.

Ok thats fine how will i apply for a basic bank account?

With most banks, you can't apply for a basic account. You apply for one of their normal current accounts, and if they can't offer you one of those, they should offer you a basic one.

There might be exceptions though - you could check out the Nationwide Building Society FlexBasic, or the HSBC Basic account

If you aren't on the Electoral Register at your current address, now is the time to get this done. Banks and credit card providers will check there.

Yh i get that however the fraud happened nearly 6 years ago and has never continued so id never do it again... this has been like a prison sentence literally torture.. when can i apply for bank accounts and a credit card? The moment cifas take it off?
    Once your file is updated.

To be pedantic, it hasn’t “literally” been like torture.
