As I'm trying to use up what I have already in I made this cake today using the walnuts & dates left from xmas, would anyone like a slice with a cuppa? :coffee:A few years ago the nuts & dates probably would've got thrown away if they weren't eaten over xmas :o

And heres my bag of bread rolls that I made earlier, they only cost about 24p of flour + a little bit of oil, yeast, sugar & salt :)

Your chicken meals sound lovely Protogenia, I have never been able to face cooking a chicken carcuss which is a bit daft, i may try & give it a go sometime during the challenge to get a meal or two extra out of the chicken like you ;)
  • Sweetpea03 I am SO JEALOUS, how did you get your rolls to cook like that?

And, yes, I'd love a slice of cake, I'll go pop the kettle on now.

Just realised that Asda deliver here so might give this a go too. I like Lidl's but always buy stuff I don't need there. Could send son for staples that are really cheap from there though and do the rest by delivery - no temptation that way. ;)
    Hello everyone!

Have just found the following offer on a link from this website - madaboutbargains.com:

Free delivery with Asda with an online order over £50. Simply type in the following voucher number at the checkout stage:
    M3-CH-NY-28

Oh this only lasts until the 9th January.

A saving on petrol or bus fares tho, even if u don't usually shop with Asda :D

Wanna say a BIG thank u to you all for inspiring me to take account of my finances this year.

I hope you all manage to achieve what u set out to :D

Best regards and wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and debt free new year!

    Thrifty ;)

Thanks for the brew wornoutmumoftwo! :T I'll go get your slice of cake to go with it! :rotfl:

I was lucky enough to get a panasonic breadmaker for xmas & its just the basic dough setting, then you just have to shape the dough (it doesn't even seem to need knocking back down) let it rise for a bit then bake for 10 mins :)

I'm going to have to get one of them. (ESSENTIAL HOUSEHOLD ITEM), even if we have to eat beans on toast for the rest of the month!

  • I do have a non-stick milk pan _I bought at sales 2 years ago-I can use metal, it's wonderful, but do not make same mistake as I did - it's too small for making a proper batch of sauce, like cheese for 3-4. I wish I had invested in a bigger one-circulon -expensive. Also, it won't go in dishwasher, but very easy to clean so it's swings & roundabouts I s'pose.

I'll remember your advice when I get round to finding a suitable one in a sale sometime. Thanks.

The dishwasher problem doesn't affect me though. I don't have one and am probably not likely to have for the foreseeable future and beyond:rolleyes: .

I shouldn't be encouraging you to spend wornoutmumoftwo lol but I think its going to save me a fortune this year with the price of bread incresing so much :( I'm going to try a pizza with the dough at the weekend & see how it turns out :)
  • Well we're on a loaf a day (about £7 a week x 52 weeks = £364 a year)

Anyway, I'll justify it by spending a little of the christmas money my hubby gave me, I also got two cook books for christmas (one scottish recipe book and a slow cooker one) so I'm hoping to be very economical this year. :A

Your cake tasted great by the way.

I am nothing if not a realist. (That's what we pessimists are calling ourselves these days! ;) )

I think I'm the polar opposite to you when it comes to shopping though!

I do get that panicky "Oh my god we've run out of EVRYTHING!" feeling - but I also get a bit of a kick out of having used it all up and having empty cupboards to fill.

(Does that make me weird??? :D  :p:o )

    Love Jacks xxx :D
:D Not weird, but very resourceful Jacks!
All the best with it all!
