School is closed as there is no electric. We've been waiting for a day like this as she's never been on an escalator lol and is desperate!( her words). We've got a little money and we're off to look at new hair bands and bobbles :)

Made it here before lunchtime for a change! :)

A £29 scarlet handbag??? I hope it was reduced or, if online, you used a cashback site or a credit card with cashback or anything to avoid paying full RRP :rotfl:

I've just redeemed my first 3000 mutual points this morning and can now sit back and await the arrival of my £20 cheque. :T I also signed up for the Coke Zone thing they have advertised on TV, collecting points from the Coke bottle labels. (Oilyhand have a 22p cashback for sign-up). Anyone who does the grocery challenge will be aware that I don't buy fizzy drinks, but has anyone any idea how long it will take for the plastic bottles to start arriving on the shores? :rotfl: Will post here the first time I find one.

I'm getting quite excited by the final run-in to the new tax year! What with the past couple of years of frugalling and cyberdoshing (online money 'games' such as mini-stoozing, clicks, eBid sales, points, vouchers and cashback) I have stashed enough away to transfer straight into a new ISA so I can maximise the interest on my house fund. :j Then I'll 'up the ante' on my 2008 challenge and see what happens... a girl needs some fun now and again and we all need to take the good with the bad.

Roll on April 6th so I can play my own version of win, lose or draw.

Hope MillyMop's DD enjoys here trip to the 'ecalator', one is never too old to go up and down on those just for the fun of it! :D

    I KNOW!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

But, in my defence, I had a couple of part time jobs running alongside my usual fulltime work and I think I may have paid too much tax in the 2006/7 year... a small rebate makes a big difference! :D

PS: My family agrees with you! :o

    Afternoon everyone,
I've been to slimming World this morning. I bought a countdown where you get 6 weeks for the price of 5, so it didn't cost me anymore.
On the way home I bought some fruit from the market with £10 I'd already taken out of the bank, so already added to my total.
I;m trying really hard not to spend anymore money before the end of the month, when DH gets paid...though I think I'm going to have to buy petrol...
Children break up from school today, so I'm going to organise a list of things to do that will be free, so if anyone has any ideas they'd be more than welcome....I have DD14, DD13, DS10 & DD9.....

I can't wait for April the 6th either. As I can call the tax credits people and update my income and finally prepare my proper budget for my DMP and get it started and rolling. Also can finish my tax return for 07-08 as I have paid too much tax and looking forward getting it back.

If you've paid the wrong amount of tax, do they fix it themselves? I've been wondering if I should check in the vague hope I'll get a rebate :D I think you can get working tax credits after the age of 25... Might investigate that further too.

Free stamps came through this morning, and I resisted the urge to buy a pasty for lunch. Its going well so far- dreading the weekend as I see my bf and tend to spend!

If all your earnings are paid under PAYE, then your tax should be correct automatically.

But problems can arise if you've had a number of jobs during the year (or at the same time) especially if one or more employer has used emergency tax codes rather than the correct one. But even then, things should sort themselves out by the end of the year as long as every time you leave a job you hand the P45 to the next employer and they tax you on a cumulative basis by the end of the tax year.

    So, try considering the following:

    - do you have a P60 from your last employer, and if so, does that show the right tax code, and does that tax code not end in "W1" or "M1" (if it does, you've not been taxed cumulatively and your tax will be wrong).
    - have you changed employers and not handed P45s from one to the next (if so, you may have been taxed wrongly).
    - have you had more than one employer at a time (if so, you may have been taxed wrongly).

I understand that HMRC are quite helpful if you just phone them up to chat through your circumstances. It will certainly help if you can get together the details of each employer in the tax year (and their tax references, if possible) as well as your NI number.

Thank you for that. I think I may give it a go, I tend to change jobs a fair amount :D I was also using a temporary NI for years as they didn't give me a proper one when I turned 16. I figure that I'll have to check my NI contributions all got changed over too.

The hunt for the P60s begins!

We're back! what a fab day we had.
I'm someone who has a great family and I've always had a babysitter when i've needed to go to town( fantastically lucky I know).
I am so pleased that I waited until dd was ready to enjoy shopping before taking her.
She was in absolute amazement at all the shops, bright lights, music that the shops played ect
We visited Claire's accessories browsing hair stuff and looking at girly things.
She even was happy to acompany me into clothes shops to help me choose a top for my night out Saturday ( although she saw lots she liked I didn't)
I'm going to keep our shopping trips as treats.

I no this makes us sound as though we live in the middle of nowhere with no shops ect.We don't and we do visit our local small town to do shopping but Molly's first visit to a shopping centre is going to be a memorable one lol
lost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013
