  • Hi all - I have been looking at this challenge with interest and was wondering if I could join you? £4000 sounds miniscule to me, but as you can see, I am DWD and just want shot of this debt that I have had hanging around my neck for far too long. I have no idea if I can do it, but you never know until you try eh?! I'd have to start from 1st April - so what is the amount left from that date...?

    Thanks,
    LBx

Hi LilyBee and welcome! Nyk will be along soon to welcome you officially and give you a challenge number. If you start on 1st April, your total will be £3000 for the rest of the year, which averages out at £76.50 a week. Don't get too hung up on the weekly figure - some weeks you'll need to spend more, some less than that; it just helps us to see if we're keeping on track overall.
Some of us also belong to the Grocery Challenge, which is a wonderful thread that helps you reduce your shopping bill each month and has loads of recipes and tips to help bring the costs down. It's here if you're interested.
Everyone is really lovely on here and a true inspiration. So pour yourself a cuppa, pull up a comfy chair and settle in for a fab and frugal year!

This bloomin' wind has bought my 10ft Clematis down!!
BF has the day off so we might have a go at fixing it back onto the battons attached to the wall. It's drying the washing though. There is always an up-side to every down-side, don't you think? />
What a lovely attitude! I'm feeling very cheerful this morning (despite having no milk in, getting body lotion in my hair(!) and my train being cancelled all before half past 8). This has encouraged me to keep it up!

Still can't work out how to put smileys in though - when I click on them on the panel on the right it doesn't seem to do anything...

I turn my back for a few hours and you've all gone NUTS!

But seriously, guys, read the rules of posting - you can get banned for offering to exchange addresses and post out stuff to one another so PLEASE don't let's have anyone else banned from here. I'd even go as far as request those involved (no names, no quotes, as it kind of defeats the purpose, if you see what I mean :D ) delete any incriminating posts. Rules are rules - no advertising, no copying legally protected material and no offers of freebies/gifts etc. The 'going off topic rule also applies. Of course, those of you who want, can always PM one another to keep it off the forums. ;)

Well done DJJoJuice, I'm glad you are reaping some benefits from here. :T

Congratulations CharliesAngel with the paying off of OD via bingo winnings! :j

Thanks for the iced bun recipe, I'll be making some of these soon and they taste really nice if you put a little jam in the middle. Even nicer still if you have any coconut to dip them in before the icing sets - YUM! :D

Bails - good luck with the breadmaking, but I warn you - it takes incredible will power NOT to eat it hot. I'd need to sit Billy Can on top of the oven to remind me and, even then, mmm.... warm, fresh-baked bread with butter melted on top... M U S T B A K E B R E A D .... :rotfl:

Welcome Lily Bee! I have now slotted you into the empty number 98, so we are up to 140 challengers in total.:T

dfw - congratulations on gaining your first MSE star!

Oh, and I did end up making a tray of toffee last night but when I went to get the chocolate that I THOUGHT was in the cupboard (so I could make it into eclair toffee), DS had eaten most of it! I need a food safe with combination lock in this house!

I can hear my BF getting up so I'm off, as every time he enters the room, I'm on MSE, he thinks I'm having an affair with Martin!:money: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This really made me laugh, thank you! :rotfl:

    Sorry about your Clematis, though.

sophiesmum thanks for the wine offer :D

moanymoany don't think I didn't think about wrestling the cow into the boot of the car. Regrettably, huge cow + Fiat Punto doesn't go

Jay1 OK, so the cow didn't exactly jump onto the car. It sort of had no option as I swept its' poor little legs out from under it as I barrelled into it at 30mph. It sort of collapsed onto the bonnet, crashed into the windscreen, slid onto the road then rolled onto the opposite verge where it lay waving its' legs in the air. It then expired :o

To all of you who think I should publish a diary. In all honesty, do you think anyone would believe it
    I keep my friends amused.

    Hello LilyBee

Have been very frugal this morning but did spend 76p on some crisps for DH on crutches. Resisted all other wonderful tasty things on offer in local Co-op (while doing Mum's shopping).
Ordered more tools for DH online via Quidco and got £33 cashback :j
Bought an outfit for Niece's wedding (Monsoon dress and shrug) for under £20 and paid via Quidco so got 37p cashback :j
Expecting £50 cashback from new Car Insurance company in next few days :j (Bet they regret taking me on)
Have made a nice chocolate traybake again with ingredients in cupboard. Have sampled this several times to ensure quality control ;)

Managed to shift DH's tools off logs and have filled log baskets in anticipation of big storm :T
For those of you who are interested, barometer falling rapidly  Have no idea what this means but sounds good :D

Janey's Diary update on form as ever :D Poor cow :( (the Friesan not the Frugaler ;))

Okay, confession time...I went charity shopping this morning, and had an ace time! :T I really needed some work clothes - no really, I did, nothing fits any more  - but fear not, I had all of you in mind the whole time, in fact you were sitting on my shoulders constantly saying 'Do you need that? Reeeaaaaally?' :D I was very picky and came away with a jumper and 3 tops from one shop for £9.50 and a lovely blouse from another for £3.75 (don't forget I live in Baaaath) Charity shops have got expensive, but when I think about what I could've spent in normal shops, it's still cheap. And it means I can buy things like G**, which I wouldn't normally, as the money doesn't go to them. I also went into a shop that was closing down and got a blueberry bush for £1 and a funky plant called Red Hot Poker (also for the garden -£1). My final purchase was a Paint Your Own Piggy :D so I can have some fun and then use it to save for something specific (not decided yet). None of this will come out of my 4K but I've got it covered - I already have a Clothing Fund and a House Improvement Fund, and well, the piggy is just a little treat for myself :o

My OH saw a car advertised the other day for £1600 which I may buy - the wonderful thing is that I almost have the entire amount saved up already (and definitely will by the time I need to buy it) - how cool is that?!:j

I'm planning on emptying out all my clothes and basically starting over - selling what I can, charity shopping some, keeping whatever I can still use and then gradually restocking with a few items that reflect my personality. I've been living in PJs and trackys for a few years now - since I've been well enough to go out, I've kept putting off buying stuff til I had lost some weight but it's happening v slowly so I'm going to bite the bullet and get some now.

Oooh, rambling... off I go for a sleep :D
