Thanks for the bread roll link. I made a baker's dozen +1 this afternoon using ordinary plain flour and water, I have half a dozen left, so I think the recipe worked OK. 14 finger rolls from 1lb of flour - I reckon I could get 50 out of a 1.5kg bag, so I'm happy.

Late, late, late, must dash, got distracted reading too much on MSE!!
    G'nite all :)

  • Hya....good morning everyone, can say that cos its nearly 3am....if you dont wont to be bored with my home improvents saga please feel free to skip this post.

....am knackered but cant sleep now....was just shutting down the PC whilst watchin Violet give birth on Corrie on ITV2....missed the earlier showing, ...edited to say ....still missed it ....dont know what she had!!!! when I suddenly became aware of drip......drip....drip....knew what it was..... but ....you know that feeling when you go.....aw fizzin jings,,,

well that wasnt the words I used!!!

Ran upstairs and there was a pipe leakin from the cupboard that used to house the old water tank and it had soaked thru the floor and was dripping on to my brand new kitchen (thats still in boxes in the living room) Panic bein my middle name .......and just little old female me being in the house.....rang the plumber who give him his due was in my house within 30 minutes (I got him outta his bed ) and all it needed was a wee bit on the end of the dripping pipe.

I feel really quite bad that I panicked so much but..... I like being on my own (have been divorced for 8 years now) and I have a fantastic OH ( he has his own place in Glasgow) but I really really need to learn how to do basic DIY. Previously when I rented LL always took care of the basics......Ive got a Readers Digest DIY book but when you panic....not the best.......if anyone knows of basic DIY classes ( am willing to travel) usually in Glasgow a coupla times a week) pleez let me know.......gnite everyone.....but will be on drip alert!!!!

I am quite disappointed that the freegan debate is coming onto our challenge, especially since it went so awry on its own thread. This thread is a major support to my family and I certainly don't want to run the risk of the thread being blocked.
I agree whitewing, Although I don't always post much I read it every day and benefit greatly from the support on here. While the freegan debate may be interesting, we can't risk this thread being wrecked, it's too important to us all.

mini_huny_muny had to smile at your house traumas :rotfl: Hope you got some sleep.
Reminds me of the time DH used his nail gun to anchor some squeaky floorboards outside the bathroom. A few days later, I noticed water dripping through the light fitting in the kitchen ceiling. DH said I must have overflowed the shower...it was obviously going to be my fault
Two days later, trickle had become a waterfall and I was jumping up and down. When DH lifted the floorboards to look, he pulled out all the nails from the pipe and it was like a lawn sprinkler. He then left me with fingers and toes covering all the holes while he disappeared to find a solution. After many tries to stem the tide, he had to swallow his male pride and call the plumber.
Atmosphere little frosty for several days ;)

How sad am I that I have been awake for ages getting really excited about going shopping. It is such a rare event that I am not excited at parting with money but seeing how little I can allow to escape the confines of my nice warm, cosy purse.:D
Have threatened DH (he is a hen-pecked downtrodden husband) that he does not go anywhere other than to the skip where the free wood is. He does not go into the joiner's shop which will be calling him in with Siren song. He does not stop off for a burger and a chat at the friendly caff on the way back.
He drives straight back to pick me up and then we might be allowed a cup of coffee in Mr T's so we can at least get the points :D
I will post the good or bad news when I return.
Wish me bargains....and an Autobank that has a slight problem and is throwing out money to all (and not recording it on my statement).

Forgot to say, its my Leaving Do tonight so I am denying DH a burger but going out for a nosh. Not only that, DH has given me money to buy 2 bottles of wine tonight and he is driving me there, going to the pictures, and picking me up when called :T

I am really blessed and think I might let him have a burger after all :rotfl:
  • I've been lurking for a while and would love to join. £3388 for the rest of the year should bring me in line with the rest of you starting Monday - maths is not a strong point so please let me if I've gone wrong. Trying to get hubby involved with this and he is making the right sounds - which will be a great help. I'm hoping to change jobs later in the year which will mean a pretty big drop in wages so this challenge will be sooooooo helpful. :j

I was looking at bread makers today and goin by recommendations from the OS thread the Panasonic was the best one ....but I couldnt believe the price 99 quid

am goin to try making my own when I get my new oven ( couldnt previously cos I had to prop a chair against the oven to keep it shut for the last 3 months)!!!!!

They can be found cheaper than that. Honest.

    Amazon search

Remember delivery will be free for one bought direct from Amazon - you'd need to check postage costs for a second hand one.

The two makes most recommended on the Old Style board are the Panansonic 252/3 and 253/4 (remembering that the one that automatically adds nuts or seeds is often £20 dearer) and the Morphy Richards Fastbake - which I can recommend 'cos I've got one :)

And in any event - keep an eye on your local Freecycle, they show up now and then as people upgrade from a cheapy. A direct link to find a group local to you is here ---> Click Me
