It may be the late hour - but I do think that if you've had mince long enough for it to have scheme, it's time you cleared out your fridge! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just had vision of mince "gone bad" and terrorising the rest of the fridge contents. :rotfl:

Did I make another typo boo-boo? :rotfl: :rotfl: Oops! sorry :o
I'll go change it and then everyone will think you were the one talking mince! :D

  • Went to get my dog from his 'Dad's' house. My ex is on holiday as it is half term (teacher, not pupil:rotfl: !!!!) and I commented on the size of a huge tiger loaf in the kitchen when I was getting dog treats for the walk. 'oh, I'm just about to chuck that' he said 'Are you:eek: ?????!!!!' I said.

I've now got 90% of a lovely 800 gram tiger loaf sitting in my kitchen.:D He said that it was 4 days old and was going to be chucked. I said I would turn it into breadcrumbs for the freezer and to coat chicken, but I've given it a squeeze and it is still really fresh so I'll use some with dinner tonight and blitz the rest tomorrow. He also offered me a load of chillies, but I've told him to keep them and freeze them until he needs them. I bet he doesn't though - I'll probably end up with them! :D

I know I was no angel money wise when we were together, but the differences are so apparent now - he has loads of CC debt, earns 30k, has a fridge of Tesco Finest and the only Tesco Value item he buys are the chicken drumsticks and thighs to roast and shred the meat off for the dog. I've got no debt (after slogging to pay it off), earn now around 12k a year, have a cupboard full of Tesco Value and Asda Smartprice and 'nicked' tiger loaves in the kitchen. I know which life I prefer ;)

Flowerof the west ramble away. Wow, a rich frugalite who has salmon in the freezer.

    Morning Janey51

The salmon was half price at Mr T's and since I need to eat a high protein diet due to WLS, and I really like fish, I couldn't pass it up! :D

Going to Mr T's today to see if I can find the frozen 10p tuna steaks :T

WOO HOO, a party! On this auspicious occasion, I have just noted that I now have 25/49 NSDs, thanks to 5 last week, and am on 4 in a row :D Now, is there any way I can not get milk today I wonder... OH used to eat his muesli with water  so I may reintroduce that tomorrow, or we can have porridge with yoghurt. Hmm, we would have to spend on Thursday (OH is going to Lidl to get tools for his business and I can't justify not stocking up on things while we're there, will only go there once a month). Oh well, that would still be 6 days in a row, what a result! Nyk, do you see what you've done to me?! Now I want to have a whole NSD week!!

Keren, well done on making such a difference in your life, I'd much rather have your lifestyle too! And excellent steal on the bread front :T

Earlier today I shredded receipts from last year including grocery ones. Food prices have really shot up since last January so it's just as well we're all on the frugal path. I discovered that I spent far too much on food last year and too much on petrol so that's the main areas that I'm concentrating on at the moment. I'm sticking to my weekly cash budget . Fingers crossed that'll mean that I can have a holiday this year. I don't plan on buying clothes unless I have to do it. I wanted a leather bag and have searched for the right one for months. I found it in a charity shop for £3.50. This frugality disease is uncurable - thank goodness!

  • Can I just say though, that he did say I could have the bread and I didn't sneak it out under my jumper or anything similar!!! I've just toasted and buttered a slice and it is delicious.

I've got a batch of stewed fruit cooking. It is some of the 20p apples and pears I got from Asda last thing on Sunday. I've also chucked in some dried apricots and pears from the lucky dip yellow sticker bag of dried fruit I've also got! It should make 2 or 3 decent sized lots for the freezer. I'll use it either for crumble or re-heated with icecream.

Thanks for that Lilaclady, I look forward to being able to go through my receipts/spending diary next year to see where I can make greater savings. Well done on the bag!
Hmm, barely any yoghurt left either - just had a coffee leaving a smidgen of milk, we WILL make it last for brekky tomorrow :D And I've just checked my leccy meter again as I walked past...I think I may need to get out of the house :D (that'll save me money ;))
BTW, I've been saving my tea bag envelopes (how annoying are they?!) and put my pepper seeds in them :T I'm going to scavenge seeds from my parents etc and store them in the envelopes. I've also just finished some After Eights (:eek:FFM and Nestle) so am now thinking of a use for the pockets/box.
My blood kits arrived just now, v prompt, so I am having my blood taken tomorrow morning. My surgery tries to charge me for this (20-something pounds) so I may have to blag it somehow...
Oh Keren, I meant 'steal' as in 'bargain', not that you half-inched it!:D

OK, I think I have caught up with all the posts.

Loved the tale of the rescued loaf from OH's house, Keren! I feel we have something more in common now, too, re the ex - except I'd never go in his house now as he's remarried and lives in her house. But I'd have rescued the loaf from anyone's house - some may ask, 'have we no shame?!' :rotfl: It would have been a shame to waste it, so well done. :T

Have chosen to skip past without thanking the one-liner newbie, apologies if you are genuine, please feel free to say more if you have more to say. I'm all ears for more hints and tips if you are feeding more than one, celebrate birthdays & religious occasions, live in a standard house, pay utilities bills and have home-based Internet connection. :D

Sorry if anyone has become totally hooked on frugalism but I did warn quite early on that Frugalitis is addictive, contageous, infectious, develops into a chronic syndrome but it's never been known to be terminal. so you're quite safe :) I believe this thread to be the online support group for 'sufferers' and it's been dubbed 'Frugalites Anonymous' by some.

Bails, I haven't managed a straight 7 NSDs this year but, like you, it's a mission. I count in all my spends, even if they are out the bank, so I would need to check my DD and SO dates to attempt it... and now that you have said that, I'm checking my diary now :rotfl: This SHOULD have been day 7 of my no spending and I blew it! I went for some real milk for breakfast cereal and ended up spending £4.54 on milk, bread, coffee (20% off own brand) and 2 tubs of Utterly Buttery (now on BOGOF). With the milk, I may switch to one carton of fresh milk per week and the rest in skimmed milk powder - I've found that Somerfield's yellow box is the only one, so far, that nobody has noticed that's what's in the carton in the fridge :rotfl: It works out about 25p per litre cheaper , which is a huge saving over a year for me. In fact, it would save me approx £65, which equates to paying next year's contents insurance plus a full year's worth of pasta  GOOD GRIEF! I had never thought of it that way before now!

My current NSDs amount to 25/50 so I am now bang on target for 50%, but I want more! I have a cunning masterplan  Going to work it out and then will get back to you all later

Oh yep, more ways to have NSDs, I'm all ears...Your NSDs are far more impressive than mine Nyk as you count everything - I'm working up to that :D Still, my spending diary week is looking very clean and empty, it would be such a shame to have to write in it :rotfl:Wow, those milk savings are really impressive when put in context :T We don't use much milk - I tried watering it down but it went off before I could finish it, and it was only a pint! (OH drinks mostly soya milk). Hmm, now if I plan my month carefully and do a big shop in the first week when all the DDs come out, I could then go for a NSW...I'd have to get OH on board first though, imagine the tantrum if he bought something (esp. as it would tie in with TOTM):rotfl:I'm off to see if I can work out a masterplan for March! :j

  • I have to say, to most people, my 'relationship' with my ex must seem odd, but he is still single so there is no 'other woman' in his life and I go around because of Charlie. It doesn't feel odd having a key to my old house, although his food waste does make me go 'ggrrr'......I saw a whole Tesco Finest sliced multigrain loaf sit on the worktop unopened for about a week a while back - and then the next day it was in the bin on the worktop, unopened, not a slice eaten. It was soooooooo tempting to pinch it out of the bin as there was nothing else in there, but he would have noticed I think and, could I (and should I!) really have taken a loaf of bread from a bin??!!!!
