The 'Billy can' is in construction at the moment, but is a great idea. Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
Im trying to think how I can decorate my 'can' so that it means something to me and will want me to be more constructive.
I am a devil for procrastinating, so I need to put things down in 'stone' to help me focus more. This challenge has been a Godsend to me!

Morning all those in Frugal Land
It's a trifle nippy this morning. I checked the temperature on DH's car and it's -4.5 so, as the car is in a sheltered position, it's probably nearer -6
Woke up this morning to beautiful fern ice patterns all over the inside of our bedroom window. I remember when we were little we used to love to see this and we used to put hot pennies on them to make our own patterns. Never thought about cracking the glass!
I'm going for a NSD today as all I have planned is to go and see my Mum and do her cleaning. I might take our bedding down as well and share the humungous commercial size washer and dryer she has the use of
I was going to clear out the freezer as DH is good about freezing things but not so good about labelling them
On many occasion I have defrosted what I thought was stewed apple and it's been soup :rotfl:
Does anyone have any good websites where I can get some pear trees? I have looked at a lot of links on the Gardening Board on MSE but they all seem to be about £16.95. I don't want a very young tree as I would like to have fruit maybe next year.0 -
Goodmorning everyone
sorry ive not been around much and wont be till end of march, hope everyone is ok, and there personal challenge amount is still ok (god i sound dumb)
but... i am still going strong here, ive only been spending what i have to.
well court was awful, i felt about an inch tall, given till 7th march to move out this army house, the good news is the private let has come up just in time, its far from perfect but im getting keys on 29th, and moving in over that weekend
been saving so hard, since i started this challenge ive now got just over 700 in the bank, plus another 300 that ive transfered from paypal ive made by selling things on ebay (made around 450 in total!, but have used some on a new bed)so im 110% chuffed with myself sadly im going to have to use the money to move my stuff but i wont let that put me off.
i need to update as such my sig as its lagging, but i have not included the train fares i used to get to kent as it was for the purpose of getting the house, and i havnt included costs to get to court (if thats ok)
ive not done a proper shop in at least a month, were having complete use up as i need to get my freezer on ebay today/tomorrow to make some money towards a fridge freezer (dont have space in new house for both seperate), addmitedly some of the ebay money ive made is from selling things i cannot take to my new house (table and chairs and a tumble dryer) and both these items have been replaced via my dad as he has managed to get me nearly new washer dryer and a butterfly table and chairs.
also done my bit and given loads to freecycle for my big move, its amazing what one can collect when they buy for sake of buying something which this year i am determined to change and its thanks to this thread and all the other people on this challenge cause its keeping me going, temptation will arise when i move as im 5 mins tops for all the shops, whereas i live in the middle of nowhere.
my appologies for not keeping up as such, but when my internet is reconected the other end i will be back daily lol, im going to arrange to be disconected this end next weekend just not sure how long the new end, im not worried my main problem was to get somewhere for me and the boys and its all comeing together just in time.DFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

Morning All,
I am definitely suffering from Frugal Millionnaire Syndrome. I decided not to go on a work night out, on the basis it would be cheaper to buy the person who's leaving a decent present just from me rather than the meal and work collection. Well I am skint at the mo, and there were practical implications, and I did discuss it with the person, who I think was quite touched that I thought so highly of them that I bothered to explain.
OH and I have started trying for a baby this morning! (Best things in life are free, Janey!) No more condom expense! (Lol, save a few pennies from them but am burying my head in the sand about the future costs!) It's MIL's fault really as she has brought photos of OH as a baby and young boy. I have been taking him for granted but now I have realised just how good looking he is, all over again.
MIL is still smiley and nice. She can't speak English which is probably why we're getting on so well! We're teaching her. Got to go!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Hi everyone,
Good luck with the new challenge whitewing!
I don't seem to be doing too well this month... out of my £333.33 I've spent £281. Groceries, as ever, are going to be the main challenge, although I've got lots of batch cooked meals in the freezer which should keep me going for a bit.
Had a good weekend money-wise, apart from buying a lamp. It was only £9 though (from instore), and the one I had really wanted was £45 from John Lewis and didn't even include a shade! So I am counting that as a small victory really (and I did need one, and it is reeeeealy lovely, I'm so over buying things I don't completely adore).
So just wanted to say good luck to everyone for this week - February is hard because it's so cold and Christmas seems so long ago - but just remember it's only a 29 day month!!
