Soap nuts: I keep reading a few more old pages on this thread (but I do have to speak to my OH now and again) I do apologise if this info has been on before but a search gave a lot of results and I can't read them all. Too many of Mum's knicks to wash
Where are people getting soap nuts from? My OH has a catalogue where they are £12.99 + £4.99 p&p for a kilo but you get 5% cashback through Quidco. That seems a lot more than the prices others are quoting on here.
I did grow soapwort many years ago but never got to the washing stage
Also..question for Nyk: When we had the house fire we lost all our gardening stuff, not to mention half our worldly possessions. We are still waiting for the insurance to settle as the claim is for over £20,000
We need to buy some stuff to get the veg garden up and running. Does the amount we spend have to come out of the £4000?
Obviously we are in the enviable position of being able to pick and choose what we buy this time round as what we lost had been accumulated over many many years. And I fully intend to save as much as I can. OH would happily spend the lot :eek:0 -

£50 is my whole budget and no way I can store that amount in one go.
I'll just buy the big things online then an go to the store for the rest.0 -

OK, well I will try and start this in a couple of weeks and deduct what so far should have been spent in 2008 so far ( if I can get my head round the maths LOL)0 -
I know this might ( probably will) sound gross BUT...
I know a lady who uses cloth wipes instead of loo roll. She made a huge batch of them a while back, wets them in a mix of water and tea tree oil and a little oil, wrings them out and puts them in a tub by the loo. When done with they goes in a tub to be washed. I guess it works out ok with her as she is stuill using washable nappies with her child. I think maybe if you didnt have a child in re useable nappies the whole cloth loo roll thing might not be financially worth it?Hopefully a NSD today for me.
