I applied yesterday around midday for the 3 year fix, they did not request any documentation from me either. I havent received the paperwork yet, hopefully it will come tomorrow. The 3 year appears to still be avaliable, I'm hoping it wont be pulled down before I get a chance to fund it.

Also opened an account yesterday. No additional paperwork required from me.

Now waiting for their paperwork to arrive in the post so it'll be interesting to see if they'll let me fund it or say they've closed it.
  • I applied yesterday evening and they requested me to send certified photocopy of ID (post office charge £12.50 to do this!), proof of address, and bank statement.

They then write back by post to confirm once they've received. Very odd in this day and age.

I'd be surprised if after all this you couldn't fund your account as they had strictly enforce their T&C's. I'm leaning towards anyone who applied before it was pulled will be able to fund their account.

As explained earlier in the thread.

My understanding is that savings providers do use electronic ID verification for most applicants these days - it's far less hassle for them to do so, as manual alternatives are labour-intensive and therefore expensive.

Such processes are far from foolproof though, and so there will always be exceptions that require manual processing, but that doesn't in itself signify a 'general requirement for certified / original documents'

It can happen with any provider. An alternative is just to drop the application and try with another provider who will hopefully not request the same paperwork ( but might ).

I used to find I had problems with electronic checking when I was on the full rather than the open electoral register although I know its probably better to be on the one with more limited access.
  • Just opened a fixed rate bond and transferred my opening deposit online yesterday.  However, I had a query that I couldn't find the answer to on the Vanquis website, so I decided to phone them.  The recorded message said that the waiting time was 10 minutes, but after waiting for an hour I gave up and decided to phone this morning at 9am when the phone lines opened.  Got the same message about 10 minute waiting time, but after 30 minutes I gave up.  Tried again at 10.30 and no luck after another 25 minute wait.  I also sent them a secure message yesterday which I haven't received a reply to.  Finding this all really annoying and frustrating and not impressed with Vanquish at all.  Was planning to make additional deposits to my account over the next few days, but having second thoughts now.  Anyone else having the same issues trying to get through to speak to someone.

Similar story with most banks these days, they generally are understaffed so takes ages to get through to anyone.  Usually quicker to post on here and see if anyone knows the answer!

Have opened account, logged in, and verified my nominated bank using the code in one of their two letters.  Then told "We will send a message to tell you when the nominated account is ready to be used." or something similar.

Anyone know how the message I need will be sent? Is it a secure message within the login, an email, or a text?  They do seem to favour complicating life.
  • They're obviously in chaos. Lady on the phone told me today they are swamped with new applications for the 5% savers and it is taking 1-2 weeks to open an account and verify documents.
