Smart Meter - any reason not to?

The point that some posters are choosing to ignore is that our energy supply is anything but stable. On a freezing foggy day in December, renewables are as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Grid operators across the World are having to find creative ways of balancing supply and demand.
Time-of-use tariffs offer a way forward as do power limiting tariffs (a tariff where the consumer agrees an instant power limit in kW at certain times of the day). These tariffs need to be smart metered. In countries such as Canada and Spain, the right to choose still exists but consumers who want freedom to use energy whenever they wish, and at whatever power level, pay more for doing so.
FWiW, my understanding is that the legislation re disconnections with a smart meter hasn’t changed. Unless the consumer agrees to a power-limiting tariff which can include disconnection in certain circumstances, then for all other disconnections the supplier still has to get a Court Order. There have been very few disconnections in recent years: suppliers now favour pre-payment meters.2 -
I have had my smart meter just over a year and quite happy with it. I haven’t got to crawl into a cupboard to take meter readings and no more estimated bills. I have an app where I can see my usage each day, week, month. I don’t get why people get so worked up about them, probably been reading too many conspiracy theories4
