Kings coronation bank holiday?

That's something you need to take up with your employer. Plenty of employers will do exactly what you say and add an extra day to annual allowance. They are not legally obliged to, though. Is your problem that you think there should be a law forcing employers to give people an extra day off for this?n1guy said:
It’s a silly sort of a thing, it’s an extra day off but it’s not an extra day off, it’s an opportunity for a day off, tomorrow is an opportunity for a day off as is the following day. You’re not actually getting another day added to annual allowance.DanDare999 said:
So what's the issue then?n1guy said:

Do you normally work a Saturday?n1guy said:
Okay so we shouldn’t watch it then and should all be working right? Even though it’s on a Saturday?Ath_Wat said:
If you have the time to spend a day watching that then you can't be that desperate for time off.n1guy said:
Ah well I’ll at least be able to watch this then unlike the funeralunforeseen said:Those who have bank holidays included in their annual leave entitlement will also be happy if they are royalists and want to watch events, but might otherwise have been unable to book the day as leave because lots of their colleagues also want that day off.

Probably yes. Okay you may not get the day itself off depending on what particular job you do but it at least should be added on, I would say probably no low paid worker will benefit from this, given most are 28 days including bank holidaysAth_Wat said:

My employer wouldn't give us the bank holiday for the Queen's funeral.0

I have nothing against the government legislating to give lower paid people more time off, but good luck waiting for that as long as we have a Tory government.n1guy said:

If this is going to happen, though, I see no reason why it should be tied to royal pageantry that a large part of the country find at best to be faintly embarrassing.0 -
The Coronation is on the Saturday, They've now announced that there will be an additional Bank Holiday on the Monday.n1guy said:
I thought it was on Monday.Ath_Wat said:So watch it, nobody is stopping you. As it happens you won't need to take the day off, but why did you have a problem when you thought you would have to take a day of holiday to watch it if you actually want to watch it? I can understand people being annoyed at being forced to take a day off that's no use to them.
I guess that it is less disruptive than shuttingdown central London on a week day and means more people are likely to be able to watch if they want to, and that the extra bank holiday may create a bit of good will, at least for theose who get bank holidays off in additon to their normal holiday entitlement.
It's possible that some employers who didn't give the funeral one may give this one, as there's a lot more notice of it (plus this year there was also the platinum jubilee one so some employres may already have paid staff for one extra and decided not to pay for a second one!)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I got the Jubilee off. Mainly because my boss got caught up in the media hype off long weekend being announced every time he put the TV on, he didn’t realise he’d have to pay for it lol and took it off us. So we never got the funeral needless to say. The Coronation is the weekend after May Day, I can’t see many employers happy about 2 bank holidays in a row.TBagpuss said:

Another bank holiday my employer won't care about. Just like the jubilee and the funeral. I'm not bothered fortunately as I would rather use my annual leave for my own family events. It is not an additional holiday here, it's annual leave.0

I suspect the May Day bank holiday will be moved to the Friday (as per Whitsun was this year) so effectively there will be a long weekend.n1guy said:
