Those who have bank holidays included in their annual leave entitlement will also be happy if they are royalists and want to watch events, but might otherwise have been unable to book the day as leave because lots of their colleagues also want that day off.

They won't because the coronation is on the Saturday before
Ah well I’ll at least be able to watch this then unlike the funeral
If you have the time to spend a day watching that then you can't be that desperate for time off.
Okay so we shouldn’t watch it then and should all be working right? Even though it’s on a Saturday?
Are watching a coronation or working your only two choices?  Seems a bit limited.  I'm sure there are other things you could find to do if you had to.
I’m sure there is but I want to watch the Coronation

My wife was on annual leave on the day of the funeral, and retired a few days after it.  She was surprised to get a letter from her former employer to say they owed her 1 days pay because of the additional Bank Holiday.

So watch it, nobody is stopping you.  As it happens you won't need to take the day off, but why did you have a problem when you thought you would have to take a day of holiday to watch it if you actually want to watch it?  I can understand people being annoyed at being forced to take a day off that's no use to them.

It’s a silly sort of a thing, it’s an extra day off but it’s not an extra day off, it’s an opportunity for a day off, tomorrow is an opportunity for a day off as is the following day. You’re not actually getting another day added to annual allowance.

If it's a bank holiday and that's what you're having then are you not entitled to your rest day back?

If you have a job where you regularly work weekends you must be used to the fact that you can’t always/ever attend Saturday events?
you could record and watch it?
or if you’re really unhappy you could look for another job (you have 6 months).

I would have thought easiest thing would be to record, but if your miffed about the Saturday thing in general then the only person who can change your employment situation is you.

He's said quite clearly that he doesn't work Saturdays and he can watch it.
