HP laptop unfixable after 14 months. Curry’s offer 50% refund

So it sounds like the laptop was fully working but the battery was not holding a charge.
It's very hard to understand why they deemed this laptop a write off just because of that, I would be tempted to try to repair the laptop myself (not saying you should do this as this could effect future remedies) - what is the model number if you don't mind me asking?
If they've returned (or are returning) the laptop back to you, at least you can use it in the interim (albeit stuck on charge) while you resolve this one way or another, though appreciate it's not ideal.Know what you don't0 -
It is an HP 14 Pavillion DV0602 NA/SA and I can’t find anything anywhere about how this would be replaced.Exodi said:So it sounds like the laptop was fully working but the battery was not holding a charge.

(14-DV though I'd double check the actual battery inside before buying).
It looks relatively painless however I must emphasise that I'm not encouraging you to try it, I'm just saying that's probably what I would personally if I ended up keeping it for one reason or another.
Of course this assumes that the repair team was wrong and that it was only the battery that was an issue (which may or may not be the case).Know what you don't1 -
Any sign of when you might get it back OP? I do wonder what Curry's have said on this letter, sending it back sounds like they have decided something that may cause you to complain and they will simply not engage (I really hope im wrong).
But as above its not a sealed battery, but one that requires the base to be removed to swap. Its not hard to do if you know what you are doing. but again like the other posted I am not recommending you should.
I do have a concern this letter is going to indicate charging port damage or water ingress. I hope I'm wrong for the OPs sake.0 -
They would require a copy of Currys T/C to view any breech of contract, what currys have said & offered & a independent report to cover the issue. As what is actually wrong & cause at the moment is a bit vague, other than battery is not working. I'm wondering why currys are not telling the OP, just sending a letter. As someone else has said could this be they believe user error/abuse (not saying this is what happened)eskbanker said:
I was meaning how would your s75 team deal with it - you seemed to be posting information from their perspective ("So actually contacting a retailer is something that does not happen that often. Which is why we require T/C & a independent report to back up any claim") so I was curious about how your company might handle OP's claim, based on the information shared thus far in the thread....born_again said:I don't deal with paperwork 👀 thankfully. That would go direct to S75 team.
Other than that if speaking to OP take details & Pass it onto the S75 team. 👍So long as OP has the required info to give them. If not OP will have to get it before they will look at it.
It is not often we have to refund, only if we get to speak direct to team to check something & they say "Give them the money back"
How it would be viewed, I could not say as they may write it off, or say something else depending on the issue & cause.Life in the slow lane0 -
I really don’t have a clue when it’s coming back. Sunday they says it was coming back with a letter and that’s the last I’ve heard despite emailing them. The laptop hadn’t been outside since I got it, it’s never been dropped it had anything dropped on it. It’s in pristine condition. I’m just disgusted with this, I’ve been without my laptop for 2 weeks now and they seem completely disinterested.visidigi said:Any sign of when you might get it back OP? I have to say it just gets worse. My laptop was pristine when I sent it away - luckily I took pictures. It is now back with no letter and it absolutely filthy, the keyboard and the casing. I am absolutely disgusted.0
