I am travelling from Kathmandu to Bangkok via Delhi on two separate flight tickets so I have to collect my bags at Delhi airport. Will I need a Visa to get through India immigration to get to the baggage collection?

Yes, you will need a visa for this journey (whether or not you have checked baggage). With no visa the airline would not allow you to board your first flight.

You will need a transit visa - you will need to attend an appointment to obtain the visa there is currently very limited availability - just a few slots left in December. When are you travelling?

My son went to the Indian Embassy in London on Monday. He, and many others, had filled in their application forms wrongly (holiday, not transit). They'd ticked UK British Subject when it should've been United Kingdom. He was rebooked for Tuesday to return with the new forms and, fingers crossed, it will be 7-10 days from Tuesday to get the visa. He travels on the 15th.
Get an appointment as quick as you can.0 -
An Indian visa can be obtained from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, where perhaps you already are, but unless you have plenty of time and patience you'll need to pay an 'agent' to fix it for you within a few days without having to visit the Embassy yourself.
