That wouldn't make sense - Splash do not pay the customs charge so why would they care whether you have to pay it? They could just post the items seperately without the £2 incentive if they wanted to. Play already do this - each item is sent out individually even if you only place one large order for multiple items.
  • my real question is - is that why splash do their £2 off each order offer to encourage people to order every item individually to remove the chances of having to pay the customs charge?

Is this the £2 voucher from coupon-mountain? They say on their site "2003 Christmas comes early-£2 off everything". I can't see any evidence of this. Yesterday i was looking for Gangs of NewYork DVD. Splash price £16.99, cd-WOW £9.99... which i bought from cd-WOW for £8.49, using £1.50 off voucher. I have bought from spash recently, using a £2 voucher code which i had to enter in their system. It took 3 days for the order to arrive from Jersey. No customs problem. I'll see how i get on with cd-WOW.

ps details of CD-WOW £1.50 voucher for people who don't mind the stuff coming from abroad ;):-

If you use the following link:

    http://www5.cd-wow.com/promotion.php?promo_refcode=12594_0&affid=12594

pop in your email address then use the following link:

    http://www4.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=12347&pp_nr=1

Then when you get to checkout put the code that you were emailed from the first link you should get the discount

Having looked at my CC statement online today, the above delivery times were infact for dvd.co.uk, from Jersey. I got carried away Sunday and placed orders with play.com, cd-WOW and Splash so i'll see how the delivery times vary.

Just like to echo the praise for Play.com. Been ordering from them for a couple of years now and never had any trouble. Delivery times - if in stock I've always received goods within 48 hours and at a great price.

Are you saying that as a matter of course CD-wow do not pay the customs charges that they should be paying and they only pay these charges when they get found out (to the inconvienience of the customer who has to claim it back from them).

Sorry if I've misunderstood, but if this is the case then it's not my idea of great service.

    Hi,
When CD-Wow first started doing video games and other stuff over the £18 customs limit this was a problem. They were shipping these items via Hong Kong. Now what they are doing is shipping all these items via Sweden so that there is not one penny of customs to pay. :D

Just to add to the good comments about CD-WOW, I ordered a CD that didn't turn up - may have had something to do with postal strikes. However when I emailed them, after double checking the shipping address, they were happy enough to send me another one, which of course made me happy enough. No difficult customer services - Great!
Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is mellow and bright,
There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.
  • I admit I haven't read all the glowing praise for CD-WOW or PLAY above, but I'll add my comments in case there is anybody in the world who doesn't know what great companies these are.

Great delivery times (especially when you consider where they come from), and the one time I sent something back, they processed the refund very quickly, no fuss whatsoever.

CD-WOW was the company I first 'internet shopped' with, and I've been a customer ever since.
People who do all their shopping at HMV and Virgin must be daft (or loaded... (and daft)).
