Unknown refund - worried

Hi ,
today I received an unexpected refund to my bank account, it was only £12.08 but I'm not due any refund and the refund came from Amazon.Lux.UK which is not the real amazon.. my bank account is not even linked to amazon
so I'm wondering, should I worry about this? I already contacted my bank , the said sometimes a customer could enter a wrong digit and it could be a mistake.. but the fact that retailer name doesn't sound legit worries me.. anyway I canceled my debit card just in case.. is there anything else I could do? I just worry they might have my bank details and they were just testing the account.. I don't know

It’s likely that the refund is actually from Amazon, the Lux part of the description indicates that’s where the transaction was processed in Luxembourg I believe.Has the refund appeared as a card refund? Or as a payment into your account?1

Appears as credit , Bank Giro/BACS credit to my current account but like I said, my amazon account is not linked to my bank account.. and I spoke to amazon and they said their domain is amazon.co.uk and not the Lux one ..mab3000 said:It’s likely that the refund is actually from Amazon, the Lux part of the description indicates that’s where the transaction was processed in Luxembourg I believe.Has the refund appeared as a card refund? companies House brings out a company called amazonlux UK Ltd that was open in 2020 and dissolved in 2021 (probably a bogus one to get covid loans )
anyway.. I find it suspicious0 -
If it worries you, ask your bank to remove it from your account.0

but how does it help removing it? if this bogus company knows my bank account they can do something else.. I don't knowBand7 said:If it worries you, ask your bank to remove it from your account.0 -
Amazon have a corporate office based in Luxembourg. This won’t come up on UK’s companies house. I regularly shop with Amazon and sometimes on my statement Amazon transactions state Luxembourg in the description even though I have shopped on the Amazon.co.uk website. It’s to do with where the payment is processed, probably for tax reasons.borderline said:

Amazon couldn't look into it that much since my account with them is not linked to my account, she did say they don't use that domainmab3000 said:Have Amazon actually looked into this for you? Or did they just say about the domain?

The very worst they can do is send you more money. I would cross that bridge if I'd come to it......borderline said:

Should it unexpectedly keep happening, and if your bank can't put a stop to it, open a new account and close the 'offending' one down. Don't use a CASS switch for this, as CASS will forward payments for your old account to your new one.
NB. they could, in theory, also set up Direct Debits against your account ( but so could everyone else who knows your sort code and account number). So keep an eye on your DD mandates1 -
my bank just told me it came from Bank of America , as amazon.lux.ukBand7 said:

Amazon.Lux.UK is the description for where the payment is from on your bank statement, it doesn’t mean it’s their domain. It’s is extremely likely that this payment is from Amazon for the reasons I have already stated. You have probably spoken to a standard customer service agent who is probably uncertain about how to handle your query and has just said what they have said.In terms of your worry, it would be very strange if someone was trying to take over your account to test it by putting money into it. I would do as Band7 suggests and ask your bank to reverse the payment, and keep an eye on your account as a precaution. I believe the mostly likely explanation of what’s happened here is someone has given Amazon their incorrect account details which are actually yours.2

Hi borderline. Did you ever find out what was going on with the transaction? I have received a refund of £0.01 from AMAZON.LUX.UK. I haven't bought anything from Amazon for months, and there is nothing in my Amazon account saying they have refunded me. My bank's advice is to keep watching my account to see if anything else suspicious happens! The only thing that comes up when you Google AMAZON.LUX.UK is the thread. I'm concerned someone has my bank details and is testing out my account or something.borderline said:Hi ,
