Guilford say they are asset managers for the transposition of portfolio held by Astute??
And what exactly does that mean? And what are they offering to you? Astute has gone into liquidation so the only assets will be sold and the proceeds distributed. That doesn't seem to offer any room for a 3rd party to be involved.

Not sure who is liquidator. So many companies involved in processes. Have been led a merry dance and lost our investment. Asset managers are looking for us to pay (as they say,  a refundable fee) to get some money back but I am wary about paying this due to Astute investment debacle.

Not sure where or who to approach to get definitive answer and/or advice.

Asset manager asking for fee to ensure we get some of our investment back but do not understand why this fee cannot be deducted from any monies due to us.  They say it is refundable but we are understandably just very wary.

"Refundable" fee. Good one! You're being scammed again.
Best advice I could give you is to forget about it and move on with your life. Your money is gone.

Because it's a scam. No legitimate liquidation involves you paying more fees. I suspect it's a scammer using that company name as they do appear to be a real company. They're probably not involved so try contacting them directly not using the email or whatever you were sent.
