SMS to short codes

Can anyone tell me which UK mobile networks allow SMS to short codes please. Recently I had trouble with my BT Broadband which also affected my digital landline. I called BT on my Plusnet mobile, and BT have a system where they correspond with you by SMS but your replies go back via a short code.  Unfortunately, and I didn't know this till now, Plusnet do not allow SMS to short codes. So, I couldn't deal with the issue this way.  I had to use someone else's mobile - not ideal.  When my Plusnet contract comes up for renewal I will change to another network which does allow this. But it does seem crackers that Plusnet doesn't allow this, when it's part of BT, the company I was contacting anyway.

Probably safe to assume the four main networks do, and not all the piggy-backers do.
  • Yeah but how much do they charge? These ought to be included in your free text allowance but I've never tried because I alway assume they will charge 50p or a £1 or something

Free responses to short codes certainly exist on O2 but it will depend if it is a response to a "premium" service or not whether it is chargeable. Afaik charges are set by the service provider & not the network, if it is chargeable afaik the senders are obliged to inform you beforehand.

I know EE doesn't include them in your allowance. I think they are charged at 17p.
