Broadband in new flat

Hi, first time poster here.

Background

I just moved into a new flat, tried to get a broadband plan but my postcode didn't show up when trying to check coverage, this happened on every internet provider's website aswell as on Openreach's website. My flat was previously a business so I'm assuming the postcode hasn't updatated on the openreache's database, fine that's alright.

Called a few internet providers, and they said we cannot get you broadband since you have a silver adress and the only one who can do it is a particular provider which I will not name let's call it X who told me I have to pay for a landline rental then I can get broadband. Now I am stuck with that certain provid

Question :

I have ordered the landline rental from Provider X, now my adress has updated with openreach, but to my horror provider X has only 24month contracts for broadband.

1 - Can I cancel the contract on the basis of the 14-days cooling off period, and If i do will my adress disappear from openreach's database?

2- If 1 isn't an option can I keep X's landline deal and go with anothet broadband provider? Does the deal have to be broadband only?

3- again if 1 isnt an option can I cancel the X landline plan pay the penalties and go with another broadband + landline rental provider or will I lose my ability to get broadband.

    1) Yes.  And no to second part.
    2) Maybe, but its usually cheaper to stay with one provider for both.
    3) See above.

If you cancel, have you considered looking at 4g/5g broadband as an alternative?
  • So you can only get one provider to install a line which any provider can do using the same system & got them to do all the work but now you want to go to another provider? Seems very unfair to me tbh, theres no reason why only this provider was able to install a line, tells me all about the providers you were looking at first tbh

As an interim you could try using 4g as an option (obviously depending on mobile reception in your area.
