1st time sim only user- silly question alert please

Hi all. I am using a sim only deal from Lebara that gives me 12gb data each month. I like entering competitions that require me to text to enter. I seem unable to do this- text just bounces back -and when I asked Lebara why they said I need to buy a seperate data package to do this? Is this correct?
Was never an issue when on a contract with Vodafone

If the competitions are premium rate SMS, then you will need to add some balance to your account. Lebara don't bill in arrears for extra usage outside of bundled minutes, SMS and data (like traditional contracts).
