Suggestions for new mobile phone sought

Six months on...In case anyone cares, I think I've finally got to the bottom of this one. Talkmobile are still sending me e-mails telling me to replace my phone. I got fed up with this, so I made use of their online chat facility the other day, and asked them why they thought I should. This is what I was told:Your device uses 4G for data, but 3G for calls and texts so when the 3G network closes, your phone will switch over to use 2G for calls and texts instead but continue 4G for data.
We recommend to switch to a full 4G device to benefit from access to 4G calling. That doesn't sound like a big problem to me. And this particularly so as I no longer need to use my mobile phone for outgoing calls when I'm at home. (The copper phone network has now been decommissioned here, so I had to switch my home phone to VOIP with a different provider. Unlike my old landline contract, the new one includes a bundle of call minutes usable during working hours.)I think that I might as well continue to leave it and see if it's a problem in practice.

Talkmobile use the Vodafone network. If staying on the same netowork is important, I would get the cheapest PAYG sim from any of the other suppliers that also use the vodafone network. If it works correctly on your phone, then port your number to that new provider and choose whatever PAYG or pay monthly package that suits your needs.1
