I recently used compare the market to find a new phone deal, I found a good deal which included a free chromebook...the deal was with mobiles.co.uk...ive since been on to mobiles.co.uk who have now said that the deal no longer exists and that they've contacted compare the market to take down the deal...but as of now and when I took the deal it's still 'available'

I'm in the middle of complaining to them, awaiting a managers call.

I've also seen I can ask for/send a 'letter of deadlock'

Which if any ombudsman would I contact or complain to ofcom maybe?

Am I likely to succeed in getting the chromebook? How far do I take it?

Any help would be much appreciated, sorry if there's already a thread on this, I'm new to this

Thanks

First thing to do is to take a screenshot of the deal ideally showing today's date.
  • Got that, but not today's date on it

  • An update....I spent roughly a couple of hours over a couple of days on the phone to mobiles.co.uk eventually speaking to team leader who couldn't help and gave me an incorrect email address to complain to. I ended up googling a complaint email address for mobiles.co.uk...which, when sent went through to the escalations team...I sent them my complaint with screenshots I took of the deal I purchased...they have been denying any responsibility, so I threatened them with further action (ie ofcom/ombudsman). In order for myself to escalate to these bodies I requested a "letter of deadlock'" which is basically a stalemate in negotiations between myself and mobiles co uk... this seemed to work and they've issued me a cash refund of £339.99 for the value of the chromebook.

A satisfactory outcome for you but -
"I found a good deal which included a free chromebook."
It doesn't state that the Chromebook is "free", only "included".
The £984 total will include the £339.99, or less depending upon what they buy them for, and you will still be paying £41/month x 24?

  • Free/included....who cares?

The fact they weren't honouring the deal was my concern

    I knew I'd be paying £41 a month...what's your point?
