Best way to pay for fuel?

Hi everyone, total newbie here so please excuse!
Basically I'm using around £100 a week on fuel for work, I'm just wondering what the best way to pay for it is? Ie, credit card with cashback, loyalty schemes etc.
Any help/advice would be massively appreciated 🙏
Thanks
Ps.  i have heard Costco is cheap but not one near me unfortunately

    Look at prices near you...https://www.petrolprices.com/
Then which ever method gives best reward for you.

The best way to pay for fuel in terms of credit card, loyalty schemes is the same as that decision would be for anything else.  You may be able to use loyalty scheme plus credit card cashback together.

Costco, as well as not being near to you, requires you to be a member and not everyone can be a member.

There is no single best option otherwise we'd all be carrying the same card.

For me, I prefer collecting airmiles (Avios) and so my card choice maximises that but others prefer the cold hard cash(back) as they dont travel/prefer buying packages when they travel etc.

Note that some credit cards prohibit usage for business, though not quite sure how they'd enforce it unless it was obvious.
If you get rewards/cashback it might be taxable if it comes from business expenditure, though not sure on this. When you say 'for work' are you self employed, or are you an employee claiming back the fuel cost on expenses etc. The rules might be different, if you're self employed ask your accountant if you have one.
ETA ignore above if you just mean commuting to work, that counts as personal spending.

Over the past 50 years, I've had many more credit cards than I can remember, but never come across such a condition. Any examples?

Really? Have you read the T&Cs?
Checking 3 random well known providers:
Section 12: "Your card is for personal use and you shouldn’t use it for business purposes"
"B2.9 Personal use Your account is for personal use only and must not be used for any business purpose."
"your account is for personal use only and must not be used for any business purpose;"

Clearly I should have read the Ts and Cs more carefully!

But I had 30 years of using personal cards for business expenses, and eight years of using them for my own business, without any challenge.

As you've said "not quite sure how they'd enforce it ". Quite - hotels, travel, car servicing (and purchases), office equipment, printing, even commissioning film shoots, all have apparently slipped through the net.

BTW I love the Barclaycard "shouldn't"!

A lot of our drivers use Tesco petrol stations with company card but their own Tesco clubcard to get the points.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Hi thanks for all your replies everyone, I get paid milage for travel so no tax issues etc. Simply looking to maximise what I can get in return as at the moment I fill up at asda purely because of the price, sainsburys is also cheap but I'm not too clued up on the nectar points. Not sure if cashback on a credit card would be worth it?
  • Best bang for book really I could use either tesco or sainsburys for points I do also have a tesco credit card which could maby be combined?
