LPG Boiler Service Contract

I've just had our renewal come through for our Worcester Bosch (Domestic & General) Service Contract and it'd increased £10 to a ridiculous £38 per month. Does anyone know any alternative providers who cover LPG boilers which are over 10 years old? The other option is to service it independently and self-insure.

I've just had a 30+ yrs old LPG system boiler replaced - for the past ca. 20 years (since I inherited it), it was serviced annually by a local fully registered plumbing company, at an average cost of ca. £60 - 80 per service. It was still running fine when replaced, but obviously was far less efficient than its replacement.

I've not had to have the new LPG boiler serviced yet, but the installer did suggest the service cost would be comparable. In any case, my present LPG supplier also provides "Free Boiler Breakdown Cover", as well as "Subsidised Boiler Service", as part of their supply contract - at no additional charge, except the boiler service cost @ £69 + VAT.

I would suggest talking to a couple of your local plumbing companies (and maybe checking your supply contract)... £38 a month seems wildly excessive. Even at £28 / month, and after service costs, you'll have been paying £200 - 250 a year just for 'insurance'.

Thanks for the response Goldie99. When I called them to stop the cover automatically renewing they dropped the renewal price from £38 down to £21 straight away. This just reinforces my belief I have been over paying and they have now lost credibility. I've decided to go down the route of getting it serviced independently and putting the money to one side to build a pot to cover repairs
