Would they get in touch via e-mail when the time came to proceed or would I have got another text? I was getting paranoid whether I'd mistyped my e-mail addressThanksI know I'd read some say it could take 2-3 weeks from applying to proceed to account opening so as I haven't gotten any correspondence from them perhaps they've forgotten me.I wouldn't mind but when I applied initially it was before the wave of new applicants they would have gained from the switch offer, oh well I guess.0

That's encouraging! I mean they never asked for any ID so I'm not sure how far along the application process I am but I guess I'll wait to hear, thanks!

I’m not at all surprised to hear that for those who have either never had an HSBC current account of one sort or another, or who used to have one but closed it some time ago, the application process and the subsequent opening of an HSBC current account can take a very long time to complete! As a long term HSBC customer, I still find that e.g. opening a new HSBC regular savings account (when it is all competitive which clearly it isn’t at the moment) can take several days, when I can open one at virtually every other bank / building society I’m already a customer of, more or less straightaway!
However, I have some good news for those who already have an HSBC current account, and have had it for quite some time, who would now like to open a 2nd HSBC current account, perhaps with a view to using it as a donor account for switching at some point in the future:
Although you are required to go into an HSBC branch to open a 2nd current account, the entire process can actually be relatively straightforward, once an appointment date and time has been booked. (It can take a week or so for an appointment slot to be available!)
The appointment is likely to consist of a one to one interview lasting c. 50 minutes at most with a senior member of staff; they will ask you a few basic questions like you would find on any account application form, and they will check that the information that HSBC already hold about you is fully up to date. The staff member will then initiate a credit check, and providing that you pass this successfully, your 2nd HSBC current account will be opened there and then; the staff member then printing out all your essential account details for you.
All of the above happened to me a few days ago; the only negative so far being HSBC’s official email asking me to bring in identification documents for name and address, none of which actually needed to be shown to the staff member doing the interview, as HSBC already fully know about who I am and where I live!2 -

I applied for a HSBC Advance account yesterday online (Sunday) - got a message saying they couldn't offer me an Advance account but could offer me a normal one (just like the OP did). When I accepted, the message then said the account was now open and I then got a text confirming this and also saying my debit card, PIN, online banking details were on their way. (7-10 days)
Whole process to less than 10 mins.1 -
Would me holding a current account with First Direct have anything to do with why I haven't heard anything from Hsbc? I mean although I'd been rejected for an advance account immediately, they swiftly said I qualify for their standard bank account to which I accepted. I just wonder if there is a way to find out what the status of my application is but it definitely seems they've decided to not go ahead with my application.
