HSBC Current Account Application

Hi Folks!
I applied for a current account with HSBC the other day and although being rejected from opening an advance account with them they offered the standard bank account. After accepting the bank account I was expecting to receive an e-mail or text to confirm but have yet to see one. Having opened a number of current accounts with other banks in the last year or so I was expecting confirmation to be relatively instant so I'm a bit surprised to have not heard anything at all. Are HSBC known to take longer processing applications than other banks?
Thanks!

Yes they are, I'm afraid.ConsistentlyLost said:.Are HSBC known to take longer processing applications than other banks?3 -
Yes, HSBC are very slow. When I opened an account I got a message saying they were very busy but they would open the account as soon as they could. Then I heard nothing for two or three weeks. Then one day I got a text, or email, saying my account was now open.2

Thanks for the responses. I did see a we're busy message at some stage in the application but with many other institutions saying the same thing I didn't think anything of it. I guess they really are though!

HSBC are about as quick as an asthmatic tortoise with a bad back and some very heavy shopping.
It took me over a month to get a current account set up with them last year including about 3 weeks to hear anything from them about my application in the first place. It was just one thing after another from that point on until I eventually switched HSBC to TSB in March this year. I will most likely only return if I become eligible for one of their switching offers in the future.6 -
I’m a long term, existing HSBC current account holder and I’ve recently decided that I could very much do with a 2nd HSBC current account in the near future. I have also kept savings accounts with them for a long time (often not with very much money in them because of very poor interest rates). I very much hope that applying for a 2nd current account is not going to take an eternity for me as well!?Bridlington1 said:HSBC are about as quick as an asthmatic tortoise with a bad back and some very heavy shopping.

Do any of you know how long it may take for me please? - all I know so far is that as an existing HSBC current account customer, the website has told me that I have to apply for a 2nd account in an HSBC branch rather than online.0 -
HSBC have claimed to have made their application process quicker but I think it can still be quite slow, especially when they have a referral offer on.ConsistentlyLost said:Thanks for the responses. I'm wondering if I tried to open a new account in their branch if that would be significantly quicker?

Full service or Digital service branches (maybe need to make an appointment) if it all goes well should open the account there and then.1

Well a month has passed since I initially applied for a bank account folks and except for a text a couple of days after that saying they'll be in touch shortly, I haven't heard a dicky. Would they get in touch via e-mail when the time came to proceed or would I have got another text? I was getting paranoid whether I'd mistyped my e-mail address

If my memory serves me correctly they sent me both a text to say they'd opened my account and a very long email containing the Ts&Cs typed into the email at around the same time.ConsistentlyLost said:Well a month has passed since I initially applied for a bank account folks and except for a text a couple of days after that saying they'll be in touch shortly, I haven't heard a dicky.
