Amazon claiming wrong item returned - I'm partially at fault.

And expecting Amazon to return the wrong item isn't realistic, if they do and you don't get it back its on them - you can see why they don't.
It is exactly the same in this case. If Amazon aren't going to accept the return it remains the OPs property and they are entitled to it back. They may have to pay shipping for it returning, but they are still entitled to it.

IMO, not sure OP did, give them a call.
I'm a bit silly as I never, rarely returned anything but the colour of a smart speaker looked very different when I got it - I know that in pics they look different but not that different - I opened, did not like and started chatting - they did a returns label - guess what, I forgot to stick in my piece of the returns label left it outside the box and only noted that a few days later when one of our kids said, something about retirnd and enclosing your details. I rang them they confirmed they had not received it. However, they said they would look into it and low and behold got my money credited the same day.
What I am saying that may help all is, any real problems, give them a call, works for me.
Thanks
Anyway in the past half an hour I've actually received a phonecall from Amazon regarding the email I sent to head office. I explained the situation fully and said that I fully accept that I am partially at fault for removing the sticker but that I had sent back the correct item.

Just wanted to pop back with an update. As I mentioned in this post ..
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79692701/#Comment_79692701
.. I'd emailed jeff@amazon.com without a response, but a few days after that post I did actually get a response from someone via a phonecall. Went through the whole story from top to bottom again and the individual was quite sympathetic and assured me that I would 100% not be charged on the 21st.
The 21st came and went and, thankfully, I wasn't charged. A week on from that and I'm still in the clear so I think I can fully and finally draw a line under this now.5 -
Good for you, I still expect a flag to be on your file though.I have sent back items in past and been given warnings because of genuine reasons like the return not being flagged as complete on system, and for sending back a faulty item (that the return was for a FAULTY item) and one time sending back a external hard drive that was dead on arrival to be told it wasn't same hard drive.I can understand why they flagged me each time but it also made me feel like I was treated as the one in the wrong.0
