Slimline dishwasher energy consumption

Just in case of interest to anyone, I measured the energy consumption of my Beko slimline freestanding dishwasher.

Quick and Shine 60° program (1 hour) - 0.91 Kwh (31p for me)
Eco 50° program (3 hours) - 0.74 Kwh (25p for me)

Thanks.  Now deduct the cost of heating a sink full of water and work out how much you'd be earning per hour by washing up manually instead.  It might even be a minus number, sometimes hot water alone can cost more than a dishwasher cycle.
If you believe the recent adverts, the dishwasher will come out cheaper though never done the maths to validate... the circa 12p for a dishwasher tab -v- the squirt of washing up liquid is hard to measure and have no idea how many L of water washing up takes (dishwasher is 6L on eco or 10.5L on quick wash)

My most recent dishwasher tablets only cost just over 3p a tablet from Amazon!

That depends whether you buy the ones that have about 18 different coloured sections including a little bag of liquid and a red smartie glued on top or the cheapo ones that do exactly the same job!
Those aren't even the most expensive methods... dont look at the cost of the supplies for the auto-dosing type machines from Beko etc

Must have very dirty dishes if your dog is zero cost.

Dishwashers are great, I don't understand those who are reluctant to get one and/or think they're some kind of expensive luxury.  Lots of years ago I offered to move my OH's parents' washing machine from their kitchen into a cupboard and fit a dishwasher in its place.  Not interested, they seemed to think they're only for posh people or something.
A bowl full of hot water is about 5p for me currently (gas combi boiler). Not planning to get rid of the dishwasher anytime soon though!

Having said that, things are a little tight, so I have though gone from around 45 washes a month to 15 washes a month by washing big things by hand, saving about £120 a year (including the cost of the hot water).

The other good thing with the dishwasher is that you can hide all the dirty stuff away until it's full and do 1 big wash, maybe only every other day.

If you wash up at the sink, you tend to do it several times a day (if you're a tidy person) and this is hot water/washing up liquid each time.

This is true.  We put ours on every 3-4 days, and have always washed up bigger things by hand to be able to use all the space on the dishwasher.

This week only two of us are at home and I've washed most of my own stuff up by hand, no idea how much that costs in hot water though (heat pump, water cylinder that heats once a day) but the dishwasher is still only about ⅓ full from the tail end of last week, we've not needed to put it on at all.
