Next step ?? Compensation + Expenses rejected

We ( My son + 7 friends ) claimed via the Wizz Air website and got the rejection email this morning

Cyprus - gatwick cancelled whilst on the plane and next flight offered 6 days later . Due to work/family  commitments they booked there own flight back 2 days later( 15hrs with stop overs) , they had to pay for 1 of the 2 nights in the hotel plus all food and travel costs etc.

They were told at the time it was cancelled due to air traffic control issues at Gatwick , despite another Wizz air flight leaving whilst they were stuck on the plane and all other flights leaving ok .And as far as i could tell flights were landing still at gatwick when theres was due to land. 

1)Flight Compensation (£350 each) rejected to due to "unexpected circumstances, which were beyond our control."

2)Expenses rejected due to " the passenger did not reschedule the flight with our company, therefore no refund of additional expenses is due in this case."

Im sure i checked you could make your own arrangements especially as they couldnt offer an alterative flight for 6 days .

What is the next step ??

Do we use ADR or CEDR  or try the court route ??
