Ironing for the sake of it (and by that I include bedsheets) is a complete waste of time.
A quick once over hard floors with my silicone broom collects a surprisingly satisfying amount of hair and dust, which I then hoover up in 5 seconds flat. Routine hoovering is saved for my rugs and carpets but given that shoes in the house are a no-no they are never that dirty.
With a dog and 2 cats, the 2 or 3 times a week I do vacuum is probably too little! I never used to vacuum much, but when I got a handheld vacuum it became much easier so I have no excuse now, and the more often I do it the easier it is. Ridiculous vacuum, despite being advertised as for animals, gets blocked with too much animal hair!. I never iron though, unless its for a wedding/funeral and I can honestly say I've never used the iron and ironing board I bought after my divorce (my husband ironed every night as he needed to wear shirts to work - so he got the iron in the break up)

I use an old-fashioned carpet sweeper to clean my carpets, and only get the vacuum cleaner out once a fortnight. I’m surprised no one has re-marketed them as a green alternative to vacuum cleaners. The carpet sweeper was better at picking up the dog’s hair, too.
I vac in the sitting room once a week and bedrooms once a fortnight but also have a carpet sweeper that I use in between if needed, especially under the dining table, or if I've had the sewing machine out. I have a mat in front of the kitchen sink and one in the doorway - a quick once over with a rubber glove (gets rid of hairs) followed by a good smack against the yard wall (gets out grit and dust, as well as being very therapeutic ) sorts those out. Sweeping brush and long handled dustpan for kitchen, hallway and bathroom once a week followed by a mopping.
I also have a spin dryer (years old) that I use for hand wash loads. As for the iron, well, that might come out once in a blue moon but most things are hung up to dry on hangers, folded when dry and put away.
We've most recently used the iron to apply edging strips to some repurposed shelving!
I don't iron much, but as I can't stand rubbish irons and wobbly ironing boards I've bought good quality ones - the board in particular will probably last a lifetime.

Frugalmacdugal, yes, the good old-fashioned Ewbank manual. I got the first as a wedding present 50 years ago, and only had to replace it about 5 years ago.
The only time my iron comes out is when I'm dress making so it's out at the moment as just bought some fabric which I've washed and dried and now pressed. Next time it's used will be once I start putting it together!
I have never vacuumed since I got my Eufey robot vacuum. It wends it's merry way around my house every day and keeps the floors spotless. As good as a cleaner any day.

Doesn't it take its good time and also hours to charge up?

So much to read, so little time.
