Speed Limiters... They are mandatory on new cars from 6th July 22... EU law still being honoured by UK... Mandatory speed limiters on UK cars from 2022 | AutoTrader

Some may beep (think seatbelt warning) ... but others may reduce engine power/output.

All based on rubbish GPS roadspeed data so, not for me. Would rather drive an older car. Will be death of the industry.

Lexus will do a hybrid system check at each service and warranty it for another year until ten years old.

I know someone who owned a 9.5 year old RX which developed a hybrid system fault.  Components changed under the one year warranty.  Cost would have been thousands.

If you are minded to spoil the ship for ha'porth of tar get a recommendation of a good indie from Lexus owners club webiste/forum.

I have a speed limiter on my 2017 Zoe…find it really helpful in areas with average speed cameras.

I suspect this is another case of deliberately misrepresenting the situation to create a storm in a teacup in order to generate click bait website articles and newspaper headlines…..

are the mandatory speed limiters different in that you have to switch yours on to use ( as do I) where as the mandatory ones in new cars are on all the time and have to be switched off each journey if you dont want to use it?

I dont know the answer as I havent done the reading.

Oh right. Like the pedestrian warning system on my Zoe….I have to turn that off each time I get in the car as I dislike it.

    I mean….it’s mildly annoying at worst…

I'm with you on this.  My old Peugeot had one, and like you say it was brilliant for average speed cameras, or roadworks where they used to like to lurk with speed guns.  It was always mildly disconcerting though when you suddenly felt the power die off, always thought something was wrong with the engine until I remembered I'd switched the limiter on
But it did mean you could concentrate 100% on the road and traffic and not have to worry about being fixated on the speedo.  My car now has cruise control but no limiter, shame really.

I've been pestered by local Lexus dealer

Have you asked them if they'll price match?

My VW was due for a service, brakes, and MOT, I had similar emails from the local dealer.

I replied I could get the service done by Halfords, brakes by the AA and MOT down the road quoting their prices. (All three were the cheapest non-dealer prices I found and also included AA discount)

The VW dealer replied they'd do the lot for the same as the prices I quoted, which came in just over half their original price. Plus I got to use their WiFi and coffee machine so didn't need to book any time off work.

Can't understand those who get a nice, expensive car with (probably) a fairly hefty monthly payment, then skimp on servicing. Waiting to see the OP post in a couple of years complaining Lexus won't cover anything under extended warranty/goodwill.....

  • If you're two months overdue, I would suck it up and take it to Lexus.  Normally manufacturers will allow a month's grace.  If you have it serviced by them you will have more goodwill.  If you do decide to take into a VAT registered indy, be sure that they only use Original parts as approved by Lexus.
