Lexus service cost £550... can I go elsewhere?

I've been pestered by local Lexus dealer as car (NX) is 2 years + 2 months old, so overdue its 2 year 'major service'... (they were ringing/emailing daily from around 22Mth mark!)  but with Covid and work from home its only done like 17K miles and has never missed a beat.

£550 seems such a rip off for effectively a few checks, an oil/filter change (even if synthetic), and a plug into an analyser.

Car is on PCP but I assume it can be serviced elsewhere? ServicingStop.co.uk do some sort of collection & delivery service for a fraction of the cost (~160) but wondering if there is a catch?

I've heard tales of car value being reduced as 'Hybrid system warranty' would be lost, or loss of manufacturers extended warranty?

Seems like a complete scam if they can hold you over a barrel like this? Thoughts?

What does your PCP deal say about servicing? Willing to pay a penalty later for being late or not at an appropriate garage if they specify in the contract? Are you intending to buy or surrender the vehicle - a none issue if you buy it.
Do Lexus dash not tell you if servicing is due or not? If they do, is it?

As it's on a PCP so read the agreement, chances are it has to be serviced at a main dealer.

If you  intend on buying the car have it done where you like, but potentially lose the benefit of a ten year Lexus warranty.

I wouldn't go near servicing stop or similar.  Their price may well be £160 but could exclude cost of parts, check the small print.  At the minimum find a Toyota specialist if you want to save some money.

If Lexus is similar to Toyota regarding the "10 year warranty" if serviced at a main dealer then (for me), it would be a no brainer to get it done at a main dealer, (particularly for the first 3 years at least), ....but that's just my opinion. If you want a cheaper service / running costs, then why not just buy a cheaper car in the first place?

Thx for reply/interest... in PCP there is a bit about "care of goods" which includes "keeping it in good repair and serviced in line with manufacturers schedule"... but not explicitly stating it has to be by Lexus as far as I can see.

Something on last service papers about the 'Free' Hybrid battery warranty being extended for 1 year/10K miles each time its serviced by them.

Given all new cars have speed limiters, I'd seriously think about hanging onto this 2020 car and do a buy-out at end of PCP.

The Lexus Dash is not pestering me by saying service due... guessing that may kick in when I get to 20K miles.

Which you clearly hadn't done so expect to pay if you return the car at the end of your deal.
  • Stay well clear of Servicing Stop - the biggest cowboys in the business.

I used them years ago, never again. Ignore the positive reviews and look at the bad, they WILL find things wrong with your car

I'm astonished that people will let an unknown person from an unknown company drive away in their car.

You should be able to get it serviced at any professional garage (has a VAT code) and get a receipt. There's no reason it has to be a Lexus main dealer.

You're already going to be paying something for the service that's 2 months late so I'd go to an independent.

Avoid the really cheap places like service stop and kwik fit, because their business model is to find faults to charge for, making stuff up if they need to.

This outfit, or one in a similar guise, were featured on Rip Off Britain recently. Viewer had handed over her car “for a service and Mot, we’ll be a few days lady . . . . “ but she then spent weeks trying to contact them, she didn’t even know where the car was! Took ages before there was any contact, they then told her there were loads of issues which they’d gone ahead and dealt with for a shedload of money.

    What speed limiters?

Also if you plan on buying out, why wait till the end after you have paid the maximum amount of interest possible? The best time to have bought out the finance would have been the day you took delivery...the next best time is now!
