I think they sold various packing materials and plastic bags, company name was “ David and Arrows Paperwork’s Ltd”

    David and Aarons Paperworks Ltd?

Not according to the letter, letter says David and Arrows

It could be a typo. There was a David & Aarons Paperworks Ltd. The company was dissolved in 2021: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/06999775 but it was only formed in August 2009, so that can't be where your relative worked in 1996.

Please could you post the full text of the two sentences shown above - the bits that have been cut off might be helpful.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Finding this company is very tricky! I even looked through the notices on London Gazettes but drew blank. So I had a look at Goldhawk Associates. The only information I can find with Goldhawk Associates is that it is on the freedom of information release with FCA Firm Reference Numbers code of 303647 Authorised. I went to FCA register and found this company is still around. Although this doesn't deal in pension at all, this company was around since1992 so could be doing pensions at the time (after looking at the owner's details on public available websites.

He is a sole trader, so maybe that is why it is so difficult to find company names. If the person signing that letter off with the surname of Deen then we found at least the person who wrote that letter. I hope this is helpful!

Dang! I was so sure that I cracked the case. 🤔Maybe it is worth posting the whole letter hiding all the personal details. Maybe an old pension company name get mentioned and someone might know who took over the books of the old pension schemes.

That should say Cornwell, not Cornwall (predictive text)

Will post full letter as soon as relative sends me a copy.

There is no possibility this is a scam I suppose? The FCA register does not show a result for "Ken Cornwell" and nor does Companies House. Along with a possible error in the Company name it may be concerning. Is your relative sure that the company name in the letter is the correct one he worked for?

The letter mentions "illustrations received from Colonia...."

A policy with an insurance company?

Colonial Mutual, perhaps? The use of the term 'paid up pension' (rather than the term 'deferred') suggests this could be a personal pension. See https://www.theguardian.com/money/2002/sep/05/consumeraffairs.lifeinsurance

There's another possible way to track this down, albeit a bit long-winded. Suggest they apply online for: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortforms/form/DPU_SAR_NI?_ga=2.230026460.1544670040.1621021753-1315656139.1609178084

If you read the thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6267734/is-there-a-really-detailed-online-method-to-check-nics/p1 (sorry it's a long read - the posts aren't numbered so there's no easy way to signpost you to the relevant bits) you'll see why that might crack the case, IF the scheme was contracted out of SERPS. Even it wasn't, it should give the full and correct name of your relative's employer.
