Impulsive Spending… Make It Stop!

  • I’ve sold a coat so only £24.66 more to find before I can pay my Next account 😊 I should be able to do that this week.

I am on annual leave this morning but I’m still up early as I need to take DD2 for a hospital appointment. It’s been booked since July so I’m glad the day is finally here! I must remember to take some school logo PE hoodies with me to give to the school receptionist when I drop her off after the appointment. She’s outgrown these hoodies so I want to donate them to the school for spares or for parents who can’t afford to buy them as they’re expensive.
  • Hospital appointment went well 🙂 DD1 gets terrible anxiety when she has her blood pressure taken so I was a bit nervous when the nurse asked DD2 if she could take hers. She was absolutely fine though 😊

DD1 tried on all the Next clothes for holiday after I picked her up from the childminder’s, and we are going to return a couple of items. Meaning I only need to find £5.66 in sales to pay the bill, which I’ve already done as I sold 2 more things today for a total of £16.18 😀 So that’s that little debt cleared up!

I did order some more things off Very for holiday just before I started work as I had a 20% off code, so I now have a new balance of £66.40 on there. Today’s sales mean I need to find another £55.88 before I can pay the bill. I like these little challenges! I’m creating room in my flat whilst paying for new clothes without touching my wages ☺️ I don’t have to pay the balance for another 6 months so I have plenty of time!
  • The car is in the garage 😬 I’m nervous! I took it to the wrong garage originally 😂 I booked it online & I thought I had booked it at the place I usually go to, but I booked it for somewhere else. Apparently this company has merged with the one I usually use which is news to me. I’m hoping the people there aren’t going to take advantage of my lack of knowledge when it comes to cars & rip me off! When it comes to mechanics I have trust issues 😂

The good news is that the garage is only 0.3 miles away from where I live, so very easy to walk to. It’s getting a full service & then they’ll be looking at why it’s making a horrible noise whenever I drive it. I have a feeling that today will be very expensive 🙈
  • I was right to be nervous. There are so many things wrong with the car that it’s a wonder it passed it’s MOT 3 months ago.

I’ve been quoted £780 for all the repairs, & I’ve got to wait another 6 days before the repairs can be done. Luckily it’s still legal to drive.

I’ve been given some bad news about a family member too so I’m feeling rather down tonight 😔 I’ll be squeezing my girls extra tight when it’s bedtime ❤️

Oh @Pink-Butterfly sorry to hear that.  Hugging dds is compulsory.  I think big bills do crop up when we first become aware of our finances; what's your plan to pay for it? Love Humdinger xx
  • Thank you Humdinger1. I’m going to increase the loan to pay for it. I did think about getting a 0% credit card, but what I’d save on interest would be offset by me spending on it, and more, so it’s safer if I don’t get one. I’ve learned from the past that me & credit cards are best to stay away from each other 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m beating myself up about adding to my debt but I know this is just a little set back, & I’m still determined to change my situation and become debt free with an emergency fund. I’ve made £111.34 in eBay sales in the last 2 weeks (that’s with the eBay fees & postage deducted) so I’m trying to think positively! I’ll get there, it just might take me a bit longer than some people.

In happier news, I have booked DD2’s birthday party & I think I’ve finished buying all her presents now. One of her favourite school subjects is geography and she loves to learn about volcanoes and earthquakes, so I bought her a book on the subject by Usborne (we are big fans of Usborne books here!). I also ordered her a Barbie weighted blanket which I hope will help with her anxiety. So she’s got 6 pressies from me totalling £141.44. I’ve still got more gift ideas for her but I’ll save them for when her grandparents ask as they always do 🙂

I’ve also made a start on DD1’s birthday. I’ve ordered her a GAP hoodie that features Mickey & Minnie Mouse (she is a big fan of them), a Lipsy dressing gown & Lipsy slippers. She loves all things comfy! I also plan on getting her a cheap mobile phone as she’s going to need to go out unsupervised soon in preparation for senior school 😱 I’m not ready for it! She’s asked for a sleepover for her party so I’ve had a quote from a local sleepover teepee company and I’m just trying to finalise the numbers before I pay the deposit. There will be between 2 and 4 friends here, plus DD1, so potentially 5 x 10 year old girls in one room 😳 Eeeeek! DD2 can go & stay with my parents that night 🤣

I had a message from the ADHD team yesterday saying they’ve finally received everything from my GP that they need & I'm now on their waiting list for the medication which is about 12 weeks. I’m hoping the meds will help with the impulse spending, as it’s very much still a battle I have with myself every day! The struggle is real 🙃

Sleepovers when I was a kid were the cheaper option and we took out duvet and pillow with us

Could you not do the pamper package yourself?

Everyone has a local person who does cheap personaliaed cups etc with names on (fbook if your friend to find them), Popcorn from bulk buy, multipack of face masks, some cheap nail varnish, film night from Netflix or DVD, spag bol (or something easy to bulk make) for dinner. Then grab bags of sweets etc in bowls for everyone.

Definitely would be cheaper than paying someone to do it😊
  • I am using a local person, who has her own teepee company. I’ve used her before and she’s not expensive. Even with 5 teepees the cost is much cheaper than the party I’ve just booked for DD2, plus my ex will pay 50% of it 😊 I don’t want my daughter and her friends to be sleeping on the floor - I hated it as a kid, so I wouldn’t want it for them, and I don’t have enough beds/sofas for everyone.

I’ve sold another item on eBay, so another £1.75 towards the Very bill. It’s not much but it’s better than nothing I suppose! £54.13 to go.

We are having a nice weekend so far. DD2 was asked to show the kids in her swimming class how to do front crawl yesterday. A very proud moment for me as until recently she was petrified of the water, and now she’s doing demonstrations 😍

I had a Pizza Express voucher that was about to expire so we went there for a cheap dinner last night. It was very nice!

Bulb are increasing my direct debit next month. Almost £50 a month more 😤 It’s sickening. I work very hard for my money & I don’t begrudge paying bills, but when I read about the insane profits certain companies have made (not Bulb, I know) it makes me so angry. I’m lucky that I can afford this extra payment but plenty of people can’t and my heart breaks for them.

I’m drinking coffee in bed now while listening to the girls play together 😊 We sorted through their books yesterday so I need to try and donate the ones they don’t want any more. I’m sure the book shelf will be full again after their birthdays 😂 Speaking of books, I’m quite sad that their school isn’t participating in World Book Day this year. I think books should be celebrated and both girls love to read.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone x
  • I’ve sold a pair of trainers so £22.28 is winging its way to my account 😊 £31.85 to go!

The sleep out donations have stopped now & very proud to say we raised £690.00 in total 👏🏼 I’m so thrilled 🙂
  • My car is fixed! 😀 And they charged me less than what they quoted, so that was a nice surprise. The money is now sitting on my Klarna account until I receive the extra loan amount to pay it off.

On Monday I passed my grade 3 skating which is great but I’m struggling to book my grade 4 sessions, so I’ll speak to my coach when she’s back from her holiday. The ice rink said they couldn’t book me in as they’re fully booked, but they’re not fully booked for grade 4, just grade 1 🤔 Strange. If I can’t get booked in then it means I can’t have lessons for 6 weeks 😥 That wouldn’t be good!! I love going to my lessons!!

It’s 7 weeks until DD2’s birthday and I’ve already wrapped all her presents 😂 I am not usually this organised! I’ve also paid the deposit for DD1’s sleepover teepees ☺️

I sold some of DD2’s old school uniform so that’s £6.10 towards the Very order. £25.75 to go!!!

I’m so tired - I walked quite a lot today as I was without my car. I have fresh bed sheets on my bed so I’ll hopefully sleep well tonight 😍

    I hope you’re all well x
