Out of date Photo Licence

Are you in trouble? No, but it depends on the Insurer if you drive with an out of date licence:raddy59 said:I thought I would get a reminder if my licence was out of date. I have never received a reminder and have just noticed it is past expiry date. The categories on the reverse give me until age 70. Am I in trouble?
My 80 year old Dad forgot to renew his licence. He had an accident where his car skidded on diesel on a roundabout and was damaged. Highways attended to treat the diesel spill and also the Police, who charged him for driving without insurance ,as he did not have a valid licence. I looked up his policy and sent the wording to the Police. It was something along the lines of:
"We will not provide cover if the driver does not hold a valid driving licence unless the driver is has previously held and is not disqualified from holding a licence."
We renewed his licence online the next day. I sent a letter to the Police Ticket Office explaining he had previously held a licence (just forgotten to renew it) and he was not disqualified from holding a licence (as evidenced by being able to renew the licence).
The Police agreed and dropped the case.

But an out-of-date photo card is not the same as an OOD licence. With the former you’re still entitled to drive.vikingaero said:
